  1. This is slightly outdated. I've now got the Logitech MX Revolution mouse, a black mouse pad, Logitech speakers, and the scanner is gone. Sorry for the low-res, I'll do better next time.
  2. Here is mine, been a while since I've posted here.
  3. Haha, you're funny. Nothing in Vista actually has a purpose. They just needed stuff to take up RAM, that's all.
  4. I hope they don't re-break it for me. I am really happy with it right now.
  5. Actually, after using it for a few days now, I have decided that it is fixed. Works pretty nice. Copying TONS of files for E3 stuff, and it is working like XP would. Yay.
  6. Actually, although it has changed something... I am not noticing the issue completely fixed. Hmmmm. I'll keep looking into it.
  7. Hey guys. For the longest time, I just lived with it. If you have Vista, you know it. Copy a file, it is slow; move it, again, slow. Delete is slow as well. It brings up that window and sits there calculating remaining time in the time it could have just deleted the damned file. Well, anyhow, I discovered a fix to this and wanted to share it with everyone. It just made me that happy. (You have to be really happy to feel like sharing.) Go to your Control Panel (Switch to Classic View) -> Programs and Features -> On the side, click "Turn Windows Features On/Off" -> Uncheck the box that says "Remote Differential Compression". If you never noticed it before, try deleting a file now, it will shock you how fast it will go. Anyhow, I sure hope this helps someone, it sure helped me, and there is an entire three internets complaining about it. Spread the word!
  8. I've got the same as Jordan. Not sure why my second test is just slightly lower than his. Hmmm. Score: 7622.3
  9. Wow, thanks for all the help. I do really appreciate you taking the time to really try and help me out. I will spend my afternoon and try all of that stuff and report back here. Only think I can say now is that Ad-Aware won't work with Vista. That is what I used back on XP, so that is why I was just using Windows Defender; waiting until Ad-Aware came out. Anyhow, thanks again, I'll try that stuff and report back here. ------------------------------------ I am now scanning with Spybot, but scanning with AVG brought about an interesting result: So, it quarantined the infected file, and replaced it with a good working one? ------------------------------------ Ohhh, it feels so good to say this. It is officially fixed! Thank you so much for your help, I guess it was that Trojan infecting the winlogon.exe. I'm so happy. Again, thank you so much for your help. I'm glad I posted it here, I love the Tech Talk.
  10. http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bonjour/ Installs when you install Quicktime. I thougt that could be the issue, so I deleted the file. :P Here is what interests me from the hijackthis: "F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\winlogon.exe" "O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup" Someone I was talking with said to NEVER hit "Fix checked" in Hijackthis, as it can fuck stuff up even more. So, those two entries sound related...? I gather that winlogon.exe reads system.ini, and doesn't see an item for shell, and stops; hence not loading the shell... explorer.exe. Makes sense to me, what do you guys think? Here is my System.ini: " ; for 16-bit app support [386Enh] woafont=dosapp.fon EGA80WOA.FON=EGA80WOA.FON EGA40WOA.FON=EGA40WOA.FON CGA80WOA.FON=CGA80WOA.FON CGA40WOA.FON=CGA40WOA.FON [drivers] wave=mmdrv.dll timer=timer.drv [mci] "
  11. I actually did go step-by-step on that. 12. Do you know of any advanced way to disable Windows Defender? I tried that by just unchecking the service and startup entires in MSconfig.exe. I am using Nod32 for AV and Windows Defender for Antispy. ------------------------- Also, here is the task manager at the step where I open the task manager: So, you can see what is running before I start explorer.
  13. Haha, nice try Marshy. If only life were that simple. No, that isn't it. Explorer is not a standard Startup Process, it is a login process. (Won't run unless you login to an account)
  14. Hey guys, got a problem recently, and I have tried everything to fix it. Here is a step by step on what happens. - I shut down, or restart, or even completely log off of Windows Vista Ultimate. - Once the logon screen comes up, I type in my password. - It starts the Welcome screen, and it actually seems to take a particularly long time. -Once it completes, I am presented with a solid black screen and a white cursor. As flattered as I am by the simplicity, Windows isn't especially useful in this state. - I can leave it sit here for hours, I tried up to four hours, it just sits there. - I can then hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and click to open the task manager. There are very few processes running at this point, 34. - I run Explorer.exe, and Windows springs to life. My icons pop up, the taskbar, my wallpaper, processes suddenly start popping up (Virus scanner, Gtalk, Trillian), and I even get the Windows Vista login sound chime. This jumps to about 54 processes. - From here, Vista runs completely normally. As you can tell, the problem is easily fixed, but it is annoying none the less, and just the fact that there has to be a problem annoys me. What to do? List of stuff tried: - System Restore - Uninstall Java and Quicktime - System clean - Startup repair on Vista disk - Replace Explorer.exe - Add Explorer.exe to the Startup folder Random known things: - In the Windows Defender Startup list, Explorer.exe is listed as "Not yet classified" Other stuff is listed as permitted. - UAC is turned off Thanks for the help guys.
  15. I would go for the 7600GS or GT, they are good cards and ya, they would do what you need them to do. I also might add either another GB of RAM, or maybe just 512 more. That may help in game performance. Updating your CPU would basically merit a full upgrade. So, I would just get a better graphics card and maybe some more RAM. Most graphics cards come with a VGA-DVI converter.
  16. I would actually highly suggest the Casio line of digital cameras. They are nice and all, and REALLY full of awesome features. If you want manual controls over shutter and apperature, take a look at the Casio Z850. That is what I have. If you want manual controls a lot of zoom (7x) and a high quality H.264 movie mode, look at the Casio V7. If you want a small really awesome small camera, look at the Casio S770. It has nice MP4 widescreen videos, a nice 2.8 inch widescreen LCD. They are all packed with awesome features. If you don't need the manual controls, I would really go for the S770. You can view the cameras at these links, and if you want talk to me over IM. http://www.exilim.de/euro/ Edit: Ugh... I didn't know you already made the choice. Sorry. Hate to tempt you with amazing cameras that you won't be getting now.
  17. Ehhh, I do appreciate that feedback, but I've looked around and I just can't get the PC I want through buying kits and such. I like the idea of having full control of everything inside the computer. Anyhow... I have made some huge updates and improvements. The original post is updated, and on top of that here is a shopping cart with pricing and such:
  18. Ya, I would, although they are really expensive. Anyhow, since hard drives are easy to buy later, it is not a need to buy it now. The issue with the Asus P5B is that it only has one IDE port. I have a DVD Burner, DVD Reader, and then my 200GB IDE drive. Therefore, right from the start, I need to two IDE ports. Graphics card really doesn't matter to me. If it will run Windows Vista and give me two monitors, it is good with me. I just want it to do its job and do it really quietly. Haha, maybe someday. I could always upgrade that stuff. -------------------- Thanks for the suggestions guys. I did look around and I did change the mother board. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813130082 It is a bit more expensive, but it has a better chipset, a better PCI layout, much better audio, a firewire port, and even comes with two extra USB ports. Sounds good to me, I update the first post of the thread with this change.
  19. Soundcard... ehhh. I just use headphones all the time, really don't need one. When you have DDR2 RAM, speed doesn't make a huge difference. Really, for the price, the upgrade to DDR2 800 isn't really worth the cost. A much smaller 10k drive is actually about the same price as my 500GB. I would rather have more space than faster space. I also have a 200GB drive already that I plan to use for Windows. I might get a graphics tablet someday, they are on sale every now and then. We'll see. Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate the feedback.
  20. Hey guys, I'm sure you get a lot of these, and I know just how much you enjoy it. I am rebuilding my PC. The one I have now sucks ass, and just needs a good upgrade. (AMD Athlon XP, 1GB RAM, nVidia 5700) Basically, I am going for a lot of good power, but still keeping it nice and cheap. I will be using it for video/audio editing, photo editing like Photoshop, lots of media stuff. So, rendering and such needs to be fast. But I don't need all the expensive gaming PC stuff. Keep that in mind. If you are up with US currency, I am keeping it under or around $700. Here we go: -Computer Case - Antec Sonata II - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129155 -PSU - Coolmax 550 Watt - http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817159033 -Mobo - MSI LGA NVidia - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813130082 -RAM - Patriot Extreme 2GB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820220174 -CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115003[ -GPU - nVidia GeForce 7600GS - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814127210 -HDDs - Western Digital 500GB SATA- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822136073 All of that comes to total price of $673.99, and that includes all the tax and shipping. For your comparison, that is roughly the price of a PS3 and a game.As you can tell, the strong point here is the processor. That will be great for general video and photo stuff. The RAM doesn't really need to be high-end gaming stuff, as I really don't PC game. Nice big hard drive, and so on. I already have the Antec Sonata II computer case, it works really nice, and the PSU is a combo deal for cheaper with the CPU. So, you know what to do. Critique it, make it better, find better prices, help a guy out. Have fun, and don't hurt yourself. -------------------- Huge updates on June 6 2007
  21. I would image it would work, although, I am not positive. Hopefully someone else here has one.
  22. Typically, a TV Tuner is the way to go. Although, since I am in the US, my stuff is different than yours, so I would not be the best one to link you to suggestions.
  23. Due to the crappy scaling and low resolutions of TVs, most of them time it will look a lot better. The pixels being spaced apart and being so big will create the allusion of higher quality. Although, when actually recording the video feed at the native resolution would give you the same results.
  24. Recently, I picked myself up a dandy new S-Video cable for my shiny Wii. Why not Component you ask? Well, personally I lack the multi-hundreds of dollars required to buy a Component capture card for my computer. Anyhow, so I got an S-video cable, and MAN what a difference it makes. You have no idea; until now that is. The following group of images are a small compilation of screenshots I took to show the difference between a Wii S-video cable and a Wii Composite cable. (Red, White, Yellow; comes with the Wii) The composite version will always be first, and then followed by the improved S-video version. ------------------------------------------------------ ----------- ----------- ----------- ----------- ----------- ----------- ----------------------------------------------- I think it provides a phenomenal improvement over the standard composite cable. The image is sharper, more color accurate, and just overall cleaner. Hopefully this is helpful and informative to someone. Thanks for reading. Note: Due to the JPG compression involved, neither are a perfect representation. In reality, both images are raw, and neither contain any true artifacting. Also note that the screenshots were taken without deinterlacing being applied to the raw image.
  25. Cool crest (I guess). I don't love the colors, and it isn't the highest quality extraction. 6/10
