Not done quest yet but apparently the specs have level 2 Geologist and two level 2 slots

    Yep, that’s right.

Was that “Special” tab always there in the forge armour section though, or did it appear alongside this event quest? :blank: Can’t remember now. :hehe:
Anyway, this is indeed a pretty good sign that stuff like the shadow shades (and the usual silly armour) will eventually appear. :)

  2. Time for an update, starting with...

    Monster Hunter Rise:

Have been pretty much glued to this since it launched, really enjoying it a lot. So much so that I basically replayed it from scratch (using a 2nd profile) immediately after completing it with my 1st character! :o Yeah, I just could not get enough of this game! :D Needless to say this is probably my favourite entry in the Monster Hunter series. While there are certainly some issues with it (especially for anyone that's been playing these games for a while now) ultimately it is a fantastic experience. I absolutely love the traditional Japanese theme they went with, the presentation is also phenomenal considering the limited power of the Switch, and the new gameplay mechanics are such game changers that I won't be surprised if they become permanent additions to the franchise. I can't even imagine playing another MH game without the Wirebug! Wyvern Riding is so much fun too!

While I certainly got my money's worth from the game already, with additional content still on the way and hopefully some more N-E online hunting sessions too (plus the worrying possibility of me double-dipping when the PC version arrives :hehe:) the Monster Hunting fun in Rise isn't over yet!

Spending so much time with MH Rise meant not much else has been played, I did however manage to sneak in a few games when I saw Apple had added a bunch of new titles to Apple Arcade a while back. Just couldn't resist checking some of them out, especially as one of them was from none other than Platinum Games!

    World of Demons:

I'd never heard of this before seeing it in the new Apple Arcade line-up, but apparently Platinum had been working on it for over 3 years! So yeah, being a big fan of most of their stuff I had to check it out. To best describe this game I would say it's what happens when you take the humour of Viewtiful Joe, the art style of Okami and the gameplay of Bayonetta and then mix that all up in a blender. I was super curious as to how it was going to play given it's a fast-paced action game primarily designed around mobile phone touch controls, and sure enough the answer was not very well. You can tell they tried to simplify certain aspects in order to make it work, but on-screen buttons were never going to offer enough precision for something like this. Luckily though, the game is also playable on Apple TV which is where I ended up playing it using a DS4 controller, and that made it infinitely more comfortable and enjoyable.

In terms of gameplay it was pretty straightforward, the areas are all quite small and very much on the simple side. There is some mild exploration/puzzle solving in there but seeing as you have to unlock paths by defeating Yokai (which gets pretty repetitive after a while) that kind of put me off looking for secrets, backtracking, etc. I think the best thing about the game for me (other than the superb art) was actually its dialogue, it's super cheesy stuff but some of it really did make me laugh a lot. Also, some of the monster designs are so completely out there, I was particularly surprised they got away with the ones that had...

    Spoiler

...an eyeball in their bum hole.

Anyway, a reasonably enjoyable game IF you can play it with a controller. In which case I'd recommend at least giving World of Demons a go for anyone who's a fan of Platinum Games. Hopefully it'll make its way to other platforms at some point too so more people get the chance to play it.

Quick mention on another Apple Arcade game that I unfortunately didn't spend as much time with as I'd have liked, and that is Wonderbox:

This is basically like The Legend of Zelda x Captain Toad, with the added awesomeness of a level creator. :) I'm no longer subscribed to Apple Arcade, but if/when I do again, this'll definitely be one of the first games I jump back into. ;)

Right now I'm back on Game Pass though checking out the latest additions there. I started with Dragon Quest Builders 2, but initial impressions were not good :hmm: (unsure if I'll return to it) so I'm currently playing Just Cause 4 instead, which I'm happy to report is proving to be as entertaining as I was expecting it be:

    Physics? :p

Custom Stages: Yes, but only because I have a stage that fits this theme, I'll have to ask the rest of you to not use custom stages. Sorry.

Shame you didn't divulge the theme earlier, as I would've prepared something for it.
Or perhaps that's exactly why you didn't. :heh:

Anyway, catch you lot later on for some...

    Superrrrrrr Smaaaaaaash Brotherrrrrrrs! :bouncy:

    I guarantee it's a Light Bowgun

Yep, the Zinogre Light Bowgun using mainly Slicing ammo taking full advantage of Weakness Exploit Lv 3. It’s pretty sweet. :hehe:

    *EDIT*

    Lv 3 skills list:

    • Weakness Exploit
    • Spare Shot
    • Ammo Up
    • Reload Speed
    • Recoil Down
    • Rapid Fire Up

  5. I get a worrying feeling that all of the event quests in Rise are only going to reward things like stickers, gestures and titles  rather than cool armour/weapons based on Capcom and Nintendo games. :hmm: Meaning we either won’t be seeing any of that stuff at all, of worse yet they make it paid DLC. :shakehead

Anyway, I’m only 2 awards away from 100% completion on the guild card now, but they’re both pretty straightforward and just a matter of collecting and hunting a certain amount. Glad you don’t need to bother with the monster size crowns this time.

But yeah, I’ve been enjoying this game so much that a while back I actually made a 2nd character and blasted through all the hub keys again! :D Will probably start using that character on N-E hunts now too (for a bit of variety) so if you’re ever joined online by Zia, that be me. :hehe:

Just wanna give my thumbs up on your tweaks there, @RedShell

And I just wanna say I hate them. Lol. But they are so funny.

    Thanks. :)

I was only planning to fix the camping spots on Great Smash Ball (which was just a simple case of moving the top 2 cannons slightly) but then I got carried away (as is often the case when using stage builder :hehe:) and made a few more changes. First I added a mild wind to slowly push any characters on the ice towards the cannons, then I noticed it was also sliding the items and they were all accumulating on the sides. So to fix that I cut a small section from each side and placed a couple of warp spots to bring any lost items back into the stage via the Smash Ball itself!

I didn’t predict the possibility of some items going through a loop though, like what happened with that Green Shell yesterday!

Anyway, cheers for the games and for enduring my custom stages. :D

Geez, were the loading times that bad in World?

Don’t know about the console versions, but they certainly weren’t bad on PC (installed to an SSD). Those little tips on the loading screens? Blink and you’ll miss ‘em! :hehe:

I imagine Rise on PC is going to have no loading times whatsoever.

Did anyone on here play through the game? @Happenstance? @RedShell? I was going to play it after my Yakuza marathon but never got around to it. It seems like a few of us bought it but nobody played/finished it. :D

Nope, I haven’t played it yet either. Hopefully a PC version is on the way though as I’d still like to play it at some point.

  9. Is anyone else’s All Software section on their Switch displaying incorrectly when set to filter it by longest total playtime?

On mine I noticed it had Mario Tennis above stuff like Zelda! :heh: Which is just unbelievably wrong.

So I booted up both of those games to get them back on the play activity list, see if that would fix the problem.

Zelda has 165 hours played, Mario Tennis is at 35 hours (somehow ) but still they show up in the wrong order in the all software section. :hmm:
    Restarted my Switch... still wrong.

    Weird. :blank:

Obviously not a huge problem, but it is somewhat annoying seeing Mario Tennis Aces pretending to be a game with actual content. :hehe:

Sorry I was late to the party last night, @Mokong, although you might say I timed it perfectly getting my carves at the end of the urgent 😂

    Yeah, perfect timing. :heh:

Would’ve liked to hunt with you guys for longer, but I was struggling to see the monsters at that point! I just can’t do “late” gaming sessions anymore, I literally am too old for that shit now.

Anyway, I’m sure we’ll have plenty more opportunities to hunt alongside each other. :)

@Hero-of-Time, was nice hunting with you again too, it’s been a while. Still a legend with the Long Sword I see.

I’ve been doing quite a bit of experimentation with various weapon types recently. I’m currently trying to figure out the Great Sword, but I spared you lot from that last night as I didn’t want to sabotage Mokong’s keys/urgent. :D

It’s incredible just how much the game changes when using an unfamiliar weapon though.

Will probably hold off doing more keys till the weekend, if there any N-E Hunters looking to fo HR7 keys and urgent (or help out) be nice to do them as a group :)

    I’ll help out.
Just make sure you set up the lobby without a password though (or use the N-E default of 4444 :heh:) as I’ve tried joining you before but couldn’t get in. :D

I need you to send me your Guild card again too as I didn’t actually get it last time we played. Didn’t realise they had to be manually accepted, thought it would be automatic like it was in MH World. :hmm:

I’ve now finished every quest in the game.

I’m only 2 away from having done all of the village ones myself! Still got lots of hub quests left though.

Will be interesting to see just how much content is added in the future.

  13. A Palico would never do anything stupid like that. ;)

Check out the way my hunter is shifted from side to side on that thing, absolutely hilarious.

And yes, that "double KO"/Wyvern ride switch was a total fluke.

This is definitely the quickest I’ve ever “completed” a Monster Hunter game, but it’s also the very first time I’ve done so without carting even once!! :o

So guess what happened on literally the first quest I did after making that post.

    Rathalos got the honours. :hehe:

Although he needed to simultaneously set me on fire, poison, stun and trap me in a corner in order to do it. :heh:

I think Gunners get it even better. They finally get to use armour that isn't sub-par, but still keep their elemental defense because that's the bonus they get.

Ah yeah, I’d forgotten about gunners having decent armour now, which combined with naturally being further away from the monsters makes a huge difference.

  15. The credits have rolled for me as well.

This is definitely the quickest I’ve ever “completed” a Monster Hunter game, but it’s also the very first time I’ve done so without carting even once!! :o Speaks volumes for how low the difficulty level is in this version (well, on the village quests at least) and also how OP Wirebug moves are.

I’m sure that’ll change once I get into the high rank/online side of things, but even so it’s still pretty crazy.

Feels like I'm wearing nothing at all! :heh:

However, I have my full hunting gear on in the above pic. Yeah, turns out there's an option to hide individual parts/all of your armour in this version of MH, or maybe that was also possible in previous games too and I just don't remember it. ::shrug:

You can do exactly the same for your buddies as well, so I've used it to hide their weapons and make them look even cuter.

Anyway... I should probably get back to, you know... actually hunting monsters.
