Dante Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Nintendo has unveiled a huge launch campaign for the Wii console that will target every kind of British consumer - male or female, young or old. Primarily utilising TV, cinema, PR and sampling, the new console will be launched with a £6.5m marketing spend between now and December and a further £4.5m spend from January to March Wii product manager Rob Lowe said that 80 per cent of people in the UK will see the Wii TV advertising at least three times, whilst sampling will hit a million people across 70 locations. "It is our intention to make the Wii the number one console in the UK. The campaign focuses on real people playing and haing fun," added Lowe. Nintendo may be launching a completely new console on December 8th, but there will be no weakening of focus on the strident DS handheld. Over £6m will be spent promoting the DS between now and Christmas, with a further 1m units of hardware being shipped in that time - taking total installed base in the UK to 2.7m units. "There will be even more clear water between the DS and any rival handheld console," comented Nintendo's UK sales director Andy Yates. "We're now outselling the competition by two to one. Nobody in retail or publishing should be backing the wrong horse right now." www.mcvuk.com
Nintendork Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I dunno what happened with the translations.. but I heard €11 million. (Nintendo of Europe after all made the announcement) Then I heard a load of people a few hours touting £11 million. £11 million sounds a lot.. even for the entire of Europe If the former is true then it's only about £7 million for the whole of Europe.. which is still nothing to be ashamed of. For perspective the channel 4 comedy deal (in touch with original comedy) for a year cost Nintendo UK £1 million.
Stocka Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 All they need is to use the video of the American guy playing on Wii Sports and they'lll get millions of sales http://uk.wii.com/movies/09/ The smile and "this is too cool!" is going to convince everyone
Nintendork Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Hahah I thought he was gonna have a heart attack. Making fun of people who are going to buy the console isn't a very good way of respecting the consumers dignity.

Oh wait, PINK DS LITE + more brain training advertising.
raven_blade2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Bring on the advertising. Nintendo needs to start cranking up the hype now for the Wii launch.
Nintendork Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 49 days still, people don't start Christmas shopping until Halloween is over. (sane people) I wouldn't expect them to start advertising until November 8th.. or that week.
