Hey everybody!

It's been a long time since I've been here! Fresh from the grave with a new identity to boot! You may remember me fro... Oh, nevermind. You won't remember me anyway... :D

I've got a question.

We all know Wii wil be backward compatible with GC-games (Hooray! :yay:). I was wondering, if you play a GC-game on Wii, will you be able to save your game on the internal flash memory of the Wii or do you need a GC-memory card in the suplied slot?

My common sense says: no, it won't, because the GC-emulator won't recognise the Wii's internal flash memory as a storage device. But than again, my common sense is't always that reliable or sensible.

A penny for your thoughts? Or rather: a pat on the back. Yes, I'm a cheapa$$.

I would like to think that the ports are solely for transferring saves onto the Wii's 512mb storage. But my suspicion is you will need a GameCube memory card because this would require reverse engineering from Nintendo.. and for every game that would be difficuilt (like the 360 backwards compatibility)

The Cube software by default will search for the Cube slots.. I don't think you will be able to look for other memory.. but perhaps they've engineered it so you can assign the on board 512mb of memory to a particular slot which would bypass the need to use a card.

I see them in the bargain bucket in Gamestation for 50p-£1.

Just buy one just in case.. the market will be swamped if it's the case that you do need one.

Hey, it's Strange Cookie! Everybody, Strange Cookie is back!*

To answer your question, I would expect GC mem cards only to be supported. But who knows? Now then, if you could avoid the shoulder blades...

*Um, sorry, I've no idea who you are.

Even if it were compatiable, you wouldn't want to waste storage on the Wii on "OLD" games, save the space for the thousands of pounds worth of software you'll have for the Wii in a few years time.

I seem to recall reading that you do need to have a GC memory card, to save GC game saves; as has been mentioned, the GC emulation will not see the available flash memory.

But people that never owned a GameCube and don't have memory cards would be happy.

I think it would not be hard for nintendo. The emulator just needed to direct the gamecube roms memory card slot A or B to the SD card or 512MB on-board memory. That would have to be configured in some option menu on the Wii firmware.
