Dante Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 04, 2010 EA score their first chart topper of the year on the Entertainment Software (All Prices) Top 40 as ‘Mass Effect 2’ is comfortably No1, debuting on Xbox 360 & PC. Original ‘Mass Effect’ (highest chart position on this chart No12) was a staged release having debuted in week 47, 2007 on Xbox 360 (at No2 on the Xbox 360 Full Price Chart, held off by the 2nd week of Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed’) and then in week 23, 2008 on PC (again No2, held off by a 3rd consecutive week for Eidos’ ‘Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures’). Sales of ‘Mass Effect 2’ on Xbox 360 are almost double that achieved first time round and three times higher on PC. Ubisoft’s Wii ‘Just Dance’ only drops to No2 and actually enjoys a sales increase of 16% over last week. Activision take No3 with ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ (-3%) – 12 weeks and counting and it is yet to drop out of the Top 3. Sony take the only other new entry this week at No4 with ‘MAG’, short for ‘Massive Action Game’ on PS3 – an online-only FPS from Zipper Interactive, best known for a long line of PS2 SOCOM: US Navy Seals games. Elsewhere within the Entertainment Software Chart there is nothing new to report with the usual protagonists jostling for position within the rest of the Top 10. Dante Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 05, 2010 ‘Mass Effect 2’ tops an unchanged Top 3 this week, despite a sales drop of 64% putting it within touching distance of ‘Just Dance’ (-26%) at No2. Ubisoft’s dancing game was only 850 sales away from regaining No1, but still remains ahead of ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ (-12%) which just holds on to No3 in the face of competition from EA’s new release ‘Dante’s Inferno’, debuting at No4. EA’s new IP is only a tiny number of sales away from dislodging ‘Call of Duty’ at No3, but EA can claim 3 games in the Top 5 as ‘FIFA 10’ (+26%) jumps 2 places to No5. The rest of the All Formats Top 10 shuffle places amongst themselves with Nintendo’s highest charting title ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (-18%) down one place to No6, ahead of Sony’s PS3-exclusive ‘MAG’ (-46%) down 3 places to No7, in its second week of release. Nintendo still manage 3 games in the Top 10 as ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’ (-14%) holds on to No8 while ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (-36%) shows signs of flagging, down 3 places to No9. ‘James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game’ (-12%) rounds off the Top 10, a non-mover at No10 with ‘FIFA 10’ the only Top 10 game to gain sales this week. Atari/Namco Bandai Games fail to break into the Top 10 as ‘Star Trek Online’ beams in at No11, ahead of new releases from THQ with ‘MX Vs ATV Reflex’ at No18 and EA with the latest Sims add-on ‘The Sims 3: Design & High Tech Stuff’ at No20. Dante Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 06, 2010 It’s no shock which title is at No1 this week as Take 2’s sequel ‘Bioshock 2’ gets off to a rapturous start. Just like Take 2’s ‘Grand Theft Auto IV’ (which was their last No1 back in 2008), ‘Bioshock 2’ saw a Tuesday release and overtakes ‘Mass Effect 2’ as the biggest release this year so far. Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’ shows great legs staying at No2 again this week, followed by EA’s ‘FIFA 10’ which is up 53% in sales and has moved up two places to No3 thanks to price promotions. Activision’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ slips down to No4 while the next three places are held by Nintendo with ‘Wii Sports Resort’ at No5, ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’ at No6 and ‘Wii Fit Plus’ at No7. Last week’s No1, EA’s ‘Mass Effect 2’, has dropped down to No8 with a decrease of 58% of sales. EA’s Dante’s Inferno’ also has a heavy drop from No4 to No9, while Sega’s ‘Bayonetta’ moves in the opposite direction, up from No38 to No10. Dante Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 07, 2010 2K Games/Take 2’s ‘Bioshock 2’ only survives for one week at the top of the All Formats Chart, usurped by a more modern-themed FPS from Sega in the form of ‘Aliens Vs Predator’. It is over 10 years since the original AvP was launched, but UK developer ‘Rebellion’ who worked on the original, can now claim the fastest selling game so far in 2010. Sales of 2010’s previous fastest selling game, ‘Bioshock 2’ (on the same formats as AvP – Xbox 360, PS3 and PC) drop 71% putting it down two places to No3, behind ‘Just Dance’ which holds on to No2 with a sales increase of 55% thanks to strong half-term interest. The year may only have just begun, but we already have No1s from 5 different publishers. There is more half-term success in the form of ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’ (+59%) which rises 2 places to No4, while sales of both ‘FIFA 10’ (-7%) and ‘Modern Warfare 2’ (+4%) are reasonably static, leaving them down 2 places to No’s 5 and 6 respectively. Perhaps also because of the Winter Olympics, Sega’s ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games’ (+76%) slaloms back into the Top 10, up 3 places to No8. Nintendo remain well represented in the Top 10 thanks to top sellers ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (+25%) at No7 and ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (+11%) at No9. The Top 10 is rounded off by EA’s ‘Army of Two: The 40th Day’ (+13%) which sneaks back into the Top 10 at No10, keeping the Winter-Olympic boosted ‘Vancouver 2010’ (+274%) out of the Top 10, as it breaks into the Top 40 for the first time at No11. Dante Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 09, 2010 Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ explodes into the All Formats Chart at No1 this week, honouring EA with the accolade of being the fastest selling game of the year so far. ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ has an excellent performance, outselling the launch week of the original ‘Bad Company’ by almost 3 to 1. It also records the best ever launch for any game released this early in the year. 53% of sales went to the Xbox 360 version with 31% for PS3 and 16% for PC, topping each individual chart. Last week’s No1 ‘Heavy Rain’ slips to No4 with sales down 69% and with ‘Aliens Vs Predator’ (-61%) falling one place to No3, ‘Just Dance’ (-15%) finds itself back at No2. Sales of ‘Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing’ (+28%) speed up in their second week, propelling it from No8 to No5, ahead of ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (-5%), which drops 2 places to No6. The usual suspects fill the remaining positions in the Top 10 with ‘Modern Warfare 2’ (-11%) and ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (-15%) both down 2 places to No’s 7 and 8 respectively. ‘FIFA 10’ (-13%) has never been out of the Top 10 since its release and it does not look like it wants this to change, gaining one place this week, up from No10 to No9. ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’ (-41%) manages to hold onto a Top 10 finish, despite falling 3 places to No10. The launch of the PC version of ‘Assassin’s Creed II’ (+73%) sees it jump from No31 to No14, while there is a new entry at No23 for Square-Enix’s PC strategy title ‘Supreme Commander 2’. Also climbing one place is Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ at No6 (+2%) – the title also climbs one place in the all-time All Formats total UK market unit sellers, finally outpacing Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘GTA: San Andreas’ to claim second place, behind the UK’s biggest selling game of all time, ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ on DS. Also of note this week is the release of the third game in the Ben 10 series – D3P/Namco Bandai’s ‘Ben 10: Alien Force – Vilgax Attacks’ which debuts at No13 over 5 formats. Debuting right behind at No14 is THQ’s ‘Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Chaos Rising’. Further down the Top 40 we also have Sega’s ‘Yakuza 3’ on PS3 debuting at No24. Disney’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ makes an appearance at No34 having been released last week and Sega’s ‘Sonic Classic Collection’ on DS is new at No35. Dante Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 11, 2010 God of War III’ is crowned No1 this week, bestowing Sony with their second game of 2010 to reach the coveted top spot (after ‘Heavy Rain’ reached No1 three weeks ago). In the whole of 2009 Sony only had one week at No1 with ‘Killzone 2’. Launched exclusively on PS3, ‘God of War III’ outdoes its PS2 predecessor’s launch by 2.65 to 1. Like ‘Final Fantasy XIII’ last week, it is the series’ first true outing on a next-gen format, however it can by no means match Final Fantasy XIII’s spectacular debut which accounted for almost 3 times as many sales (although this was over 5 days and 2 formats while sales for God of War are for Friday and Saturday and PS3-only). ‘Final Fantasy XIII’ sales fall 80% as it slips from No1 to No3, while EA’s ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ holds on to the No2 spot, only 2,000 sales away from No1. Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’ is starting to become a familiar sight at the top of the chart, down one place to No4, while THQ record this week’s only other Top 10 new entry with the post-apocalyptic ‘Metro 2033’. The rest of the Top 10 jostles amongst themselves as ‘Wii Fit Plus’ moves down one place to No6 and ‘Heavy Rain’ slides 3 places to No7. Nintendo’s only Top 10 game this week is ‘Wii Sports Resort’, but it does mange to climb one place to No8, boosted by sales from bundled Wii hardware. ‘Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing’ slows two places to No9 and the unthinkable almost happens – ‘Modern Warfare 2’ almost falls out of the Top 10 for the first time, down 4 places to No10 this week. EA’s big newcomers this week both sit on the outskirts of the Top 10 with new expansion ‘Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening’ at No11 and ‘Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight’ at No12. The only other new entry is Capcom’s ‘MotoGP 09/10’ at No21. Nintendo’s remake of Pokémon Gold and Silver (originally on Gameboy Color) debuts on the DS this week with ‘Pokémon Soulsilver’ at No2 and ‘Pokémon Heartgold’ at No4, with EA’s ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ sandwiched in between at No3. Nintendo then finish off the Top 10 with ‘Wii Sports Resort’ at No9 and ‘Wii Fit Plus’ at No10. Dante Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 13, 2010 Easter takes a hold of the games market, with Good Friday signalling a time to settle back, meet the family and play some games. With that in mind, Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’ manoeuvres its way back to No1 (+56%) with a third chart-topping week on the Entertainment All Formats (it was No1 in weeks 2 & 3 this year and also claims an impressive 12 out of 13 weeks of the year so far on top of the Entertainment Software Budget Price Top 40). Square Enix’s ‘Just Cause 2’ (-21%) has to settle for No2 this week, having parachuted straight into No1 at launch last week (although keeps hold of No1 on both 360 and PS3 Full Price Charts). EA’s ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ (-7%) remains at No3 and Activision Blizzard celebrate a return to the Top 5 for the first time in 5 weeks with ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ climbing 2 places to No4 (+52%) – 21 weeks since launch and MW2 still has not dropped out of the Top 10. Nintendo’s ‘Pokemon Soulsilver’ (-37%) drops 3 places to No5, ‘Wii Sports Resort’ climbs 3 places to No6 (+52%) and ‘Pokemon HeartGold’ drops 3 places to No7 (-34%). ‘FIFA 10’ celebrates a return to the Top 10 after 3 weeks just outside, up 4 places to No8 (+70%). There are no new releases within the Top 40, with only P2Games/Ubisoft’s ‘Peppa Pig: Fun and Games’ from last week entering the Top 40 at No27 (+312%). Those looking to find PQube/Zen’s ‘Blazblue: Calamity Trigger’ will be interested to learn that it was the biggest new release of week 13, but is just outside the published Entertainment Software All Prices Top 40 (you can find it on the Entertainment Software Full Price Top 40 at No38 and at No21 on 360 and No19 on PS3 Full Price Charts). Dante Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 14, 2010 Wii gamers can’t stop dancing as ‘Just Dance’ holds on to No1 in the All Formats Chart, handing Ubisoft a total of 4 weeks at No1 in 2010 – the most for any publisher so far this year (ahead of EA with 3 weeks and Sony and Square-Enix with 2 weeks each). ‘Just Dance’ has been the biggest selling Wii game every week this year apart from in week 1 (when it had to contend with Wii Fit Plus). It is also already the 3rd biggest 3rd party Wii game ever in the UK (behind Sega’s Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games and Take 2’s Carnival Funfair Games). All Top 40 titles drop in sales, but sales of ‘Just Dance’ only dip by 7%, the lowest drop out of all the Top 20 games this week. ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ leapfrogs ‘Just Cause 2’, climbing one place to No2 with sales down 28%, while sales of Square-Enix’s title drop by 51% as it slips one place to No3. ‘Modern Warfare 2’ (-46%) is a non-mover at No4 staying ahead of Nintendo’s 5 Top 10 charting games. Nintendo’s biggest selling game this week remains ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (-25%) up one place to No5, despite a surge from ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (-8%) up 3 places to No6, Pokemon SoulSilver (-42%) and HeartGold (-39%) are both down 2 places to No’s 7 and 9 respectively, while ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’ (-37%) holds on to No10. In an extremely quiet week for new releases there are no Top 40 newcomers and next week looks like it could well be 5 weeks at No1 for Ubisoft with the imminent release of ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction’ on Xbox 360. Rockstar/Take2’s ‘Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City’ remains at No3 thanks to the release last week of PS3/PC versions (-31%) and Nintendo climb one place to No4 with ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (-3%). This week’s big new entry at No5 is Capcom’s internally developed ‘Monster Hunter Tri’ on Wii, the most successful version of this franchise so far in terms of launch sales / position on the All Formats Chart. ‘Monster Hunter’ was first seen in the UK on PS2 in May 2005 and this was followed by 3 PSP versions (Monster Hunter Freedom, 2006 / Freedom 2, 2007 / Freedom Unite, 2009). The only other new entry this week is Namco Bandai’s ‘Dead to Rights: Retribution’ at No22, developed by UK studio Volatile Games (a division of Blitz Games). Dante Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 17, 2010 EA shoot to the top of the All Formats Chart this week as ‘2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa’ debuts at No1 putting an end to Ubisoft’s 4-week run. It’s not surprising to see FIFA depose Ubisoft’s ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction’ from top spot with what is the World Cup themed version of the 10th biggest selling game ever in the UK, ‘FIFA 10’. During this week in World Cup Year 2006, the launch of ‘FIFA World Cup Germany 2006’ represented 15% of FIFA 2006’s launch week. ‘2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa’, although released on only XB360, PS3, PSP and Wii (compared to 7 formats in 2006), performs in a similar fashion, recording 14.6% of FIFA 10’s launch week. The PS3 version just pips XB360, accounting for 48%, XB360 47% with PSP and Wii making up the rest. It was the other way round at the launch of FIFA 10 with XB360 48% and PS3 46%. At No2 this week is another reinterpretation of a classic with ‘Super Street Fighter IV’ debuting ahead of Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’. Sales of ‘Just Dance’ dip by only 5% putting it ahead of Ubisoft’s very own ‘Splinter Cell: Conviction’ which falls from No1 to No4 with a 37% drop in sales despite the release of the PC version this week. Sales of the 3 week old PS3 and PC versions of ‘GTA: Episodes from Liberty City’ (–32%) are slowing meaning a dip from No3 to No5 for the Rockstar title. Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit Plus’ and ‘Wii Sports Resort’ both perform well this week with sales up 20% and 27% respectively, positioning them at No’s 6 and 7. EA’s ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ rallies at No8, down 2 places, but managing a 7% rise in sales. ‘Modern Warfare 2’ (+42%) still hasn’t dropped out of the Top 10, boosted by price promotions on Xbox 360, only slipping one place to No9. There is a third new entry in the All Formats Top 10 this week with the HD, next-gen ports of the first two God of War games, ‘God of War Collection’, debuting at No10 on PS3. STOOPIDDITTIES Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Ah dropped off the top 10 already. There I was hoping to see it climb.
ShadowV7 Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Haha, yeah same. Still, had 5 odd new releases to compete with. Anyway, it out did Mario and Pokémon which sell a fair bit. Still, i'm expecting it to hold up for a little while longer.
