Gaijin von Snikbah Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 From GoNintendo. The Swedish gaming site Game Reactor is reporting that Sony has filed a patent for a “cylinder like” accessory for the PS3 that mimics Wiimote controls. It seems as if this accessory will work alongside the PS3 Eyetoy camera to track a player’s exact hand movements in 3d space. It will also be able to determine how the accessory is being held and turned as well. This shouldnt come as a surprise though, they are going to copy it wether we like it or not. How successful it is remains to be seen. No longer a rumor, GameSpot is reporting it as a fact. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6154345.html
demonmike04 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 It's something for the Eyetoy camera. Finally, im not the only one who's said that. They were talking about a cylinder shaped device for Eyetoy this years and last years E3.
dabookerman Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 its not copying the wiimote, i dont know where this came from...
Teppo Holmqvist Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 If I remember correctly, this is actually very old patent and no related to gaming at all. I can't, however, find it from US Patent Office. EDIT: Hmh, there isn't any kind of patent that would fit to GoNintendo's description on US Patent Office.
DCK Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 The EyeToy wand has been talked about for quite some time I think. It's not a copy of the Wiimote, there's not even buttons on it.
