Since we now know that Godfather is coming to Wii, and we also know that this is probably as close to GTA as Wii will get in the near future, I figure we should have a designated place to discuss Godfather Wii.

If we look at the Xbox version we can already tell the basic plot, a bit of what the game will do well, and what needs to be improved. It would also be great to hear what people think the Wiimote would add to the game.

Based on Godfather (Xbox version) reviews, some things stand out:

Pros:

Decent AI

GTA-like expansive environment

Good voicework

Short load times

Respect system

Taking out businesses/other families

Cons:

Awkward fighting system

No Al Pacino

No GTA-like weird mini-games

Missions less "intense" than GTA

Fortunately, the Wii version should sport a completely different fighting system using the Wiimote's functionality, so that should be an improvement. I'm hoping they use the Wiimote to introduce some mini-games as well.

With work nearly completed on the Xbox 360 version (it is due in September), there should also be a host of improved models/textures/whatevers that the Wii team can commandeer to ensure that the Wii version outshines the Xbox version visually.

What sorts of mini-games/Wiimote functionality/improvements do you guys want to see?

The Xbox version got about an 8, losing points (at least at IGN) for graphics, sound and a crappy fighting system. With the work being done for the 360, though, there should be a dramatic improvement in graphics and sound for all next-gen systems.

IGN did state that the Xbox game "doesn't suck" and that "much of it is impressive." This will hopefully only get better for the Wii version.

Is the Xbox version any good? I can't help but think that this sort of game isn't very well suited to the Wii...

Why not? As long as the port is handled well then its just as suited as Resident Evil, Zelda etc.

Its a third person action game with driving bits - Analogue stick to move, Wiimote to direct weapons and then either switch the wii-mote on the side or just use the analogue stick for the driving bits. I think it'd work fine although I'm not expecting anything amazing if its just an enhanced port of the Xbox game which is pretty average.

Still, it being on the Wii is good news for Nintendo - Its one of the big name third party titles that appeals to an adult audience that the Gamecube missed out on, regardless of its quality its appearance on the Wii will be a good thing for Nintendo at least.

Lol, yeah, at the moment though, I really can't imagine any traditional style games working well on the WII, other than FPS' etc, I dono, it was the same when the ds came out...still, I think they will find a way to make it work. I'm just kinda worried about the beat em up scene, I hope we see another Bloody Roar and Soul Calibur, but I just can't see it working properly...:hmm:

Forget the possibilities of the Wii-mote and just think of it as a second analogue stick - That, along with the nunchuk and the buttons between the two basically gives you a normal pad so its not too hard to imagine how things could be moved over :)

There's a good chance it will just be the Xbox game with added Wii controls (which is cool) and some tiny improvements in the graphics department (16:9, 60fps, AA, improved physics)

Or now that I'm thinking about it, it might be the PC version.

From what I have heard the PC version is a sloppy port of the xbox version, Same graphics.

At that part in the game you have to make his death look like an acsident. And the right part is from a Tony hawk screen. The choke him wii logo is from the new Sonic images.
