Twozzok Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Ok, so here's the deal... My dad doesn't want wireless running constantly for some reason, but i need to have a server set up to practice my 1337z0r networking/web skills on. Is there a router that has 3/4 physical ethernet ports (preferably gigabit, but 10/100 would probably be cheaper) but also a turn-offable-without-disabling-the-physical-ports wireless capability. Oh yeah, and it has to act as a ADSL modem aswell. If anyone can find something like this, i'll be amazed, i definately haven't had any luck.
SpinesN Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 All routers (that I know of) for use in homes or small offices have 4 ethernet ports. As for turning off the wireless every router SHOULD have this. That will simply be in the settings for the router. I know netgear DOES support turning off the raido if that helps.
Twozzok Posted July 2, 2006 Author Posted July 2, 2006 hmm, never mind. Roadkill got me the answer Just get a normal routerand add a wireless access point to one of the ports.
Jon Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 The router I have has a simple check box for whether wireless is on or off.
Twozzok Posted July 2, 2006 Author Posted July 2, 2006 I'd rather it be a physical switch to be honest, so much easier.
BGS Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Why doesn't your dad want wireless running all the time? Don't understand that..

All wireless routers that i know have at least 4 ethernet ports and can disable wireless whenever you like. And why doesn't your dad want wireless always on?
