Jon
Nowadays the jumper is at cable select at default (I think...) So only bother with the jumper if you have an old IDE cable. And if you do have one, you should get a better one. The hard drives are slow enough without the cable restraining it. Only sata drives dont require jumper settings (though you still can change them) If his motherboard doesnt support sata. then IDE will have to do. Ashley
Would there be any compatability issues, should I look for certain hard drive manufactors for my PC, or will anything work?
Jon
Would there be any compatability issues, should I look for certain hard drive manufactors for my PC, or will anything work? As what has already been said about IDE and Sata etc, any drive from any company would work. I however would avoid anything from maxtor and go for seagate or western digital, a lot of people complain about drive failures with maxtor. Bogbas
Well there seems to be that some hard drives fail more often than others. I don't know about those as I have a samsung and two seagates and they haven't failed... But maybe someone other can recommend a brand. Or you could look for reviews on sites that specialises on PC hardware. Only sata drives dont require jumper settings (though you still can change them) If his motherboard doesnt support sata. then IDE will have to do. Yes, but with the jumper being in "cable select" the drive should find out automatically if it's a slave or a master.

True, luckilly most drives already come like that such as Seagate.
