Quote If you pre-order any of the various special versions of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that cost $100 or more you will be able to play the game three early. You can play Hitman 2 four days early if you pre-order the Gold Edition of the game for $100. The lone major Xbox One exclusive for the fall, Forza Horizon 4, gives four day early access for its $100 ultimate edition. Battlefield V will also let you play three days early if you pre-order the $80 Deluxe edition. Edited September 25, 2018 by Choze 1
Hero-of-Time Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Quote Publishers say early access is boosting sales of special edition games And we can expect dual release dates to continue, say publishers Publishers talking to Gamesindustry.biztell us that their players are willing to pay more to get the game a few days early. “Yes it is [proving effective]," GAME CEO Martyn Gibbs told us. "We are a big part of that. Some of those games have been exclusive to us from a retail perspective and there has been appetite for those experiences to come a little bit earlier. I don't think it's something that we want to see to wide spread, because it creates uncertainty in terms of release dates. But the trials that we have done, and the ones that we've launched so far this year, have worked really well." It seems unlikely Gibbs is going to get it his way when it comes to limiting early access activity . One mid-sized publisher told us this week that they'd been keeping an eye on it and will "undoubtedly introduce early access versions after our next game. I expect dual release dates will only increase next year." Great. Multiplayer games doing this are essentially pay to win. Your paying more to access the game early and thereby have an advantage due to having better gear and an understanding of the maps before the game gets a full release. Man, gaming is a mess right now. What's annoying is a lot of gamers that are against such practices are the ones that really care about the hobby. Sadly the market is being dictated by the general masses. 1 2

Sadly the market is being dictated by the general masses. If anything becomes popular and there is money to be made, then often companies will home in on the one thing that sells and what the general public know something for to the detriment of what made it great in the first place. It's sad to see the industry go this way, but there are still plenty of developers out there who still want to make great games above all else. Granted, many of them are indie developers but even so. The cost of details required for HD Gaming and the larger more prominent role shareholders are playing in publishers has had a negative effect on gaming
