AshMat Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Ok so long story short im having SERIOUS lag issues. OEven on enemy territory it lags like hell. My pc specs: 2.4Ghz Processor 512mb RAM Windows XP Proffesional Soundblaster Audigy of some sort The graphics card doesn't come up on the adapters thing.. I was wondering what i can do to get rid of this cursed lag. I can't play CSS, HL2DM after forking out almost 30 quid. I can't play W:ET even though it says im more than powerful enough.
Sanchez Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Ok, now are you talking about lag or a crappy framerate, because lag has nothing to do with your computer specs.
AshMat Posted January 18, 2006 Author Posted January 18, 2006 I mean.. Like it moves like a robot with un-oiled hinges. Could be framerate i think.. i got on a server with Ping 1 (i thought pc specs would help im new to online gaming)
Charlie Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Start / Run / cmd then type in ping.google.co.uk and paste in your results here, then we can tell if it's lag or not. Also, download CPU-z so we can find out about your graphics card. Do you have any graphic heavy offline games?
Mr_Odwin Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Cpu-z isn't very detailed for graphics card stuff, is it? Download and install this Retro: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Everest-Home-Edition.shtml Open it and then in the menus go: Report>Report Wizard Choose to make a 'System Summary Only' report in 'plain Text'. It'll produce a report on your computer. Select it all and paste it in here. It'll be biggish but we'll find out all the stuff we need to know. (No personal info though.) Edit: bad link replaced
AshMat Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 Ok here you go odwin: I took only the stuff off the top because i exeeded the character limiut, i didn't think you'd want all the numbers at he bottom, tell me if you do --------[ EVEREST Home Edition © 2003-2005 Lavalys, Inc. ]------------------------------------------------------------ Version EVEREST v2.20.405 Homepage http://www.lavalys.com/ Report Type Report Wizard Computer HOME Generator Ash Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600 (WinXP Retail) Date 2006-01-19 Time 16:14 --------[ Summary ]----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Computer: Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional OS Service Pack Service Pack 2 DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c) Computer Name HOME User Name Ash Motherboard: CPU Type Intel Celeron, 2418 MHz (24 x 101) Motherboard Name MSI 645 Combo (MS-6737) (6 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 SDR DIMM, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio) Motherboard Chipset SiS 645 System Memory 512 MB (PC2100 DDR SDRAM) BIOS Type AMI (02/26/03) Communication Port Communications Port (COM1) Communication Port Communications Port (COM2) Communication Port ECP Printer Port (LPT1) Display: Video Adapter SiS 315_315E (32 MB) 3D Accelerator SiS 315 Pro Multimedia: Audio Adapter Creative SB0090 Audigy Player Sound Card Storage: IDE Controller SiS PCI IDE Controller Floppy Drive Floppy disk drive Disk Drive Maxtor 6E040L0 (40 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/133) Disk Drive IC35L040AVVN07-0 (40 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100) Optical Drive LITEON CD-ROM LTN486 (48x CD-ROM) Optical Drive TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R1002 (DVD:4x, CD:4x/4x/24x DVD-ROM/CD-RW) SMART Hard Disks Status OK Partitions: C: (NTFS) 39252 MB (12236 MB free) F: (NTFS) 39197 MB (33988 MB free) Total Size 76.6 GB (45.1 GB free) Input: Keyboard Easy Internet Keyboard Mouse Microsoft PS/2 Mouse Network: Network Adapter SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter Network Adapter WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface (86.144.118.206) Peripherals: Printer Microsoft Office Document Image Writer USB1 Controller NEC uPD720100A USB OpenHCI Controller (v1.0) USB1 Controller NEC uPD720100A USB OpenHCI Controller (v1.0) USB1 Controller SiS 7001 PCI-USB Open Host Controller USB1 Controller SiS 7001 PCI-USB Open Host Controller USB1 Controller SiS 7001 PCI-USB Open Host Controller USB2 Controller NEC uPD720100A USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller (v2.0) USB2 Controller SiS 7002 USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller USB Device BT Voyager 105 ADSL Modem USB Device Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector Oh and Moria, when i put that into command prompt it jsut said something about a bad batch file or soemthing about a batch file..
Charlie Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Quote Display:Video Adapter SiS 315_315E (32 MB) 3D Accelerator SiS 315 Pro That's your problem. 128mb is minimum for HL2, with 256mb recommended I think!
AshMat Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 Sorted then, i'll get a new graphics card. cheers any reccomendations? EDIT: just checked enemy territory. That says 32mb, so how come i still get issues with that?
Charlie Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 It looks as if you're graphics card is built into your motherboard, they aren't as good as stand-alone ones. Try putting all the settings down to low and see what happens. YOu're Celeron processor isn't helping either. They aren't all that good.
AshMat Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 Recommend me any pcs that cost less than 100 quid and i can actually use it for what i want ¬_¬ I think ram is full, processor is attached to motherboard. Don't think there's anything i can replace is this thing
Bogbas Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 just checked the msi website, your motherboard supports 2Gb of RAM maximum, so you can get more when you need it. And it doesn't have an integrated graphics chip. And there's an AGP slot to which you can connect a decent graphics card. And you can upgrade to P4 processor if you want to.
AshMat Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 Oh cheers bogbas. Can anyone explain why enemy territory is still laggy though?
Bogbas Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 retro-lover said: Oh cheers bogbas. Can anyone explain why enemy territory is still laggy though? Try setting the resolution of the game lower(try 800*600) and set detail levels to low in the options->system menu. Also check that it's using 16bit textures, and that dynamic lighting is off. And enable low detail sky. Edit: here's some settings: Resolution: 800*600 Color depth: 16bit Fullscreen:yes Geometric detail: Low Texture detail: Low Filtering: Bilinear Detail textures: off depth buffer: default If it still is slow, then you really need to get a better graphics card.
Sanchez Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Too be honest I would just get a new computer, you would just bottleneck yourself with any new components you get.
AshMat Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 It will take me at least a year to save for a new pc with no spending at all. I'll try those settings EDIT: YES SETTINGS WORKED! ET now plays like a wet dream. thanks guys
