Ooh i read this earlier today! At first i thought it was just the Rev and DS linking up... then i started drawing comparisons with the speculation from that N dev 5 bloke about the revolution working hand-in-hand with a white, head-shaped 'brain' shaped device (i'm not gONna say it... :P), but then i read a little further and it just seems to be Nintendo clarifying the technology they are using to allow NES, SNES and N64 games to be played on the Revolution.

Hmmm...

Wonder if you'll be able to download Nes, Snes and N64 games to your DS via the Revolution...

The DS is basically a compact N64 with Wifi and a touchscreen...

The DS cannot support textures like the N64 could, although they have shown work-arounds in Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart.. obviously a fair ammount of work goes into this though.

Also remember the DS does not have the same to store this, Nintendo would have to ship ram cards.. and this could lead to piracy.

I think it is unlikely, they wont want to scale the DRM system that much.. I think people will want it simple, one off fee for a game, play it any time on your console.

Something more likely perhaps is the DS acting as a revolution controller instead of buying the shell, 2 functions in 1.

But I'm not sure on the specifications on the wifi and whether it could be responsive enough? I know the PSP has a similar destiny.

Nope this isn´t going to happen. you can´t controll your game through wirelesslan.

Nintendo stated they´ll use some kind of bluetooth for controller input data. WIFi is too slow in my opinion..

Well, as far as I know, texture blurring is set by the operatingsystem, rather than the game, so the effect would disappear on the DS, allthough Nintendo would have to redo the controlls. I'm just saying it would be interresting to play classics on the rev, move them to the DS, along with all your savegames, continue playing, and come home with some new stuff that you've unlocked while you were gone.

One thing I'd love to see would be the legend of Zelda, with high-detailed characters, and simple-to do improvements, like trees (you improve one tree, and all trees of the same kind get modified aswell) and partially improved textures... And real 3D wate with reflections and stuff...

Thanks for clearing that up, I am not familiar with the proprietary 802.11 flavour they're using, or bluetooth for that matter.

I remember seeing a bluetooth remote controlled car and that thing went like the clappers.

The patent seems to be about the Virtual Console. Also, it could mean maybe to download NES and SNES games on the DS and emulating them. N64 games would be impossible - you can't execute code from one machine on the other just like that, and the DS doesn't have anywhere near the power to emulate the N64 (the Cube barely had for that matter).
