So I upgraded the family computer from Vista to Windows 7 (Pro if it matters), but I've been having problems on startup where it thinks there's an error. Tried to repair but can't find any problems. I'm using an upgrade disk.

Tried to reinstall by reinstall or repair it using the upgrade option but it won't do it from the same version.

What's the easiest way to reinstall, will a clean install work? Want to confirm before I backup every again. If I grab a normal install disk will the upgrade key still work or will I have to reinstall Vista and upgrade again?

Edit: Should say it boots up fine most of the time.

You don't need to grab a normal install disk. You can do a full/clean install from the upgrade disk with the upgrade key (I had to do a clean install as I was going from Vista 32bit to 7 64bit).
