wooks63 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Typical. Here we are just a couple of days before Christmas and my Wii has decided to start giving me the "an error has occured ...." message. Have ordered a Wii lens cleaning disc in the hope it's just dirt, but if this doesn't work, I'll have to send it off for repair. So it looks like all the games I've bought for the kids this Christmas are likely to just sit there for a month or so. AAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!

D_prOdigy Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 The lens cleaner will very likely work. I and many other have had the same problem recently, especially with dual-layered discs like Xenoblade. Just persist with it - it might take four or five cleaning attempts, but it should stop the disc errors in the end. Also, if you don't already, have your Wii on its side, rather than standing it horizontally. Apparently (I only 'learned' this recently) that can make all the difference.
dazzybee Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I get the error message sometimes too (usually after Wii Fit) Actually its a system files are corrupted message, is that the same thing? Does my head in!
RRR Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 ARGGGGGGHH! Is the perfect reaction to when your Nintendo sytems start failing. There is nothing as frustrating as this. When I have had problems with my nintendo systems, I visit www nintendorepairshop com. They have some useful how-to videos and do it yourself guides that will help to solve your problems. wooks63 Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 Also, if you don't already, have your Wii on its side, rather than standing it horizontally. Apparently (I only 'learned' this recently) that can make all the difference. I have it vertical i.e. standing up using the stand as opposed to laying down flat (horizontal). So should I try it flat? Still waiting for the cleaner to arrive, although realistically, not expecting it for a few more days yet due to the Christmas post. Have got 4 new Wii games ready and waiting to be played . . . .
wiinner Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Slightly moving the console, leaving it in a different position sometimes does the work for me.
wooks63 Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 Well, I tried the cleaner (I tried about 5 or 6 times!) and it made no difference whatsoever. It was able to read the disk enough to know what the game was so that I could launch it from the Game channel, but it then just errored. I then tried laying the console down and in this case, it wouldn't even recognise the disk! So it's had to go of the the repair centre. Was quite impressed that they give you a pre-paid label to send it to them, even though the console is now 5 and a bit years old (I got it at launch). Anyone know roughly how long they take to repair and send back?
wooks63 Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 Just though I'd update this. Sent the Wii off on the 6th using the Freepost label, which was a 48 hour delivery service. When booking the repair online, I gave my email address and mobile number so they could keep me informed. I then started to get texts and emails as follows:- Tuesday morning (10th) - they'd received the Wii. Wednesday afternoon - they'd started the repair. Thursday afternoon - repair was complete and they'd despatched it. Friday morning - Wii turned up fully repaired. So am very impressed. However, the thing that totally amazed me is that they didn't charge for the repair at all, even though it is over 5 years old! Have been playing with it all weekend and all's fine. Don't think you can get better customer service than this.
Coolness Bears Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Oh awesome! I might try that as my wii disc reader is broken on mine.
