Posted July 3, 2011 Hey guys just brought a laptop and sadly my wireless router can't seem to make a strong enough signal to reach it at the end of the house I live at. Is there a way to make a bridge or boost a wireless signal? I looked at various boosters on amazon but I don't really know what I am buying anyone have any tips/recommendations? Posted July 3, 2011 Wireless range extender might do the trick. If you're really savvy you could turn an old router into a repeater by putting dd-wrt custom firmware on it, but that can be a tricky process. I actually have trouble getting a signal just through a single wall, must be something to do with the wiring in the wall or the density or... something. Either way phones and 3DS can't get a wireless signal from what is basically about 5 metres away. Because of that I was thinking of getting a wireless repeater and seeing if they can be hooked up using ethernet/homeplugs. If I got one of these Shorty is the idea that say I had room A, B and C in that order down a house. If I had the router in Room A and I put this in room B it would make the signal in room C stronger. Yeah that's the idea or you could put it in the hallway or something. I'm going to try setting up homeplugs between them so room A has router ->homeplug and room c has homeplug-> repeater but I can't find any confirmation if that works well. Posted July 4, 2011 You could also try to boost the signal with tin foil. Step 8 on the following website: http://www.wikihow.com/Boost-a-Router-Signal A friend of mine did this successfully. Although I heard there's a slight chance to fry your antenna, but I think this mainly applies when you wrap it tightly around the whole antenna. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Cube that would actually be perfect, but £30 when we might move home in a couple of months is just a bit too much tbh. Posted July 9, 2011 Well the cable is only 1-2 feet, the idea is just that the aerial has much better gain and can be moved higher or further from interference.
