Boom Street

Recommended Posts

It was seen on the screen at the end of the conference and is on the E3 press site. It kinda looked like Mario Party from what I remember but had Mario and Dragon Quest characters in it.

Press release

Get on Board, Corner the Market and Make a Fortune

Players become familiar characters from the Nintendo and DRAGON QUEST

universes in a board game that challenges them to play the real estate and

stock markets wisely to win. Players race around the board trying to

accumulate wealth and hit a target value while buying, selling and trading

property with friends and family to see who can be the first to cash out. What

appears at first to be a simple property-buying board game offers multiple

levels of money-maximizing opportunity.

FEATURES:

• Players move around one of more than 15 boards, buying shops to build their

portfolios and collecting symbols they can cash in at the bank to earn more gold

to invest. It takes money to make money, so racing around the board may not be

the best strategy.

• To capitalize on their monetary gains, players can make investments, play the

stock market, purchase shops and collect shopping fees. Players with multiple

shops adjacent to one another see them grow in value and their shops level up.

Other players who land on those squares have to pay an increased shopping

fee.

• Players can choose to play as a variety of Mushroom Kingdom characters, as

DRAGON QUEST characters or even as their own Mii™

characters.

• More than 15 different game boards are available, providing endless replay

value.

• The beginner setting helps newcomers learn the basics, while a more advanced

mode introduces more challenges, deeper strategy options and the ability to play

the stock market.

• The franchise has been a hit in Japan, and this marks its first appearance in

North America

How many of you have been following this game closely? How many of you even knew about it? If you answered "aye" to either of them, you're a more informed gamer than I. Waiting in line for Kirby Wii at E3 this year, I couldn't help but notice and be fascinated by the station next to it, which had a curious Mario Party format and cast, but also... not. News to me, but it does look cool!

Well it turns out the game will let gamers play online, at least in their own country anyway. How fortunate we will be when the game hits shelves this holiday season in the US.

Fantastic news, if true. I've been wanting the Mario Party games to go online ever since this generation started and this could be the closest I get to it. Fingers crossed for a European release.

Nice, didn't know this was online. Not sure I want to play this kind of game online though, normally too slow.

The NoE press site has this listed as an August release, but a few of the dates listed were actually the US release date so not sure on that one. They had Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 listed as 28th August which the US release day (and a Sunday) and Kirby Mass Attack as either the 12th or 13th September can remember which one off the top of my head.

I wonder why the cloud Koopa things were chosen?

Their name escapes me.

I do hope the hidden characters aren't Dry Bowser or some nonsence.

Release date for the UK is still 06th Jan, but I do believe some parts of Europe are getting it a week/two weeks earlier- not sure why. (spanish site has the release set for the 23rd Decemeber for example)

It was Official Nintendo Magazine that reported it (forgot to source them before), so I was going by what they said. ::shrug:

I'II take this info with a grain of salt, since they have been wrong in the past. I think they are confused over the different release dates for mainland Europe and UK.

Germany, Italian, Portugal and Spain have the release date for the 23rd Dec

France, UK, Belguim and Netherlands have the release date for the 06th Jan

Yeah, wouldn't be surprised if they're wrong.

Just got to wait and see I guess, I'm not in any hurry to play it

I was out doing my last bit of Christmas shopping when I noticed this on the shelf in HMV. Needless to say I snapped it up. That's my Christmas gaming sorted now :D

How much was it from HMV? If it's cheap enough I might go down check mine.

Unfortunately it was full price, meaning £39.99. It was in the HMV at the Metro Centre.

Not sure I want to pay £40 for it, can probably wait a week.

Can't be bothered going to the Metro Centre either. Might go to Newcastle though...

Make sure to post some impressions! ;)
