PC freezing shortly after booting

Hey folks, I've just built the PC I was talking about in the previous thread.

But I've already ran into trouble.

It freezes shortly after the boot-up, with nothing installed or changed.

Whether just on the screen waiting for a boot device, the BIOS or a Linux live CD.

After looking at the health menu in the BIOS, I've noticed the CPU temp starts at 37 and constantly rises to around 49 and then it freezes.

The CPU is an i7 2600... any suggestions?

I'm going to try removing the gfx card, bits of RAM, CD and HDDs... but it's probably the CPU?

Thanks...!

If the CPU temp is rising that quickly I'd suggest reseating the CPU/Heatsink. 49C doesn't seem high enough to cause a crash to me, so the problem may still be else where but it shouldn't rise that quickly.

Make sure you clean off all of the old Thermal Compound and get a nice smooth thin layer.

It's the only thing I can think of, especially because if I restart the PC straight away it freezes pretty quick.

Also surely everything else erroring would mess up straight away...

I'm gonna need to get some stuff to clean off that goo.

I need to get a better cooler than the stock one anyway.

I'll keep fiddling.
