Movie Maker is a pain in the arse because if you import the video as a whole it splits it into a ton of little pieces and all the transitions etc... are lost... I would say try media coder but its got quite a learning curve, so next best thing would be to try something from AVS media: http://www.avsmedia.com/ Not sure which one will get the job done, but I would say the video editor package would be your best bet. I've never used it to do something like this, but i just checked and it does cause some problems. The song i split said that it was still it's original length when i opened it in windows media player, but it did play and it did stop at the right point.
