This will have a long-term positive impact on the industry as the user base expands. Software sales still increased 10 percent over last January, indicating that continued strong hardware sales are not occurring at the expense of software sales. Only two of the top 10 games this month were new releases. The continued strength of games that have been in the market for some time clues us into just how many new consumers are coming into the industry. This broadening of the audience for gaming will help buoy the industry through these tough economic times, provided they have enough compelling content to keep them interested. Accessory sales were up 11 percent over last year, and strong hardware sales usually are accompanied by strong accessory sales as consumers pick up additional peripherals to help them enjoy their gaming experiences. Shino Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Loving it, there were many people crossing fingers, expecting for some reason that Nintendo's success would slow down gradually this year.
ShadowV7 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Overkill better be in a good place in the top 10 for February and fingers crossed, still performing well in March. If not asses will be kicked.
Zechs Merquise Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Loving it, there were many people crossing fingers, expecting for some reason that Nintendo's success would slow down gradually this year. Me too, I'm also happy to see that the predicted 'PS3 comeback' is still a non-starter!

If not asses will be kicked. 2+3 sold over a million, or at least came within whiskers of it. So there's no logical reason why Overkill can't do better.
killer kirby Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Me too, I'm also happy to see that the predicted 'PS3 comeback' is still a non-starter! Hence why looking on gaf is funny at the moment
Goron_3 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Great sales from microsoft and Nintendo. PSP also sold well and for those that don't know it's now sold 50 Million worldwide (somehow). Interesting fact from Microsoft though; going by metacritic there are 132 games rated 80% or above for the 360, 90 for the PS3 and 42 for the Wii, which really does explain the reason why many complain about the software available. Hopefully this year we'll see Nintendo matching hardware sales with some great quality titles from themselves, aswell as Conduit, Madworld and HOTD: Overkill getting people into the system. Really think we're in for an interesting year tbh. PS3 is still selling really well despite the fact we're in recession, it's the same price as it was last year and everyone is waiting for Killzone 2 to come out. I think they'd settle for only selling 2/3rds of what M$ did this month, it's still a good figure.
