PSU and Graphics Card Help

Hey all,

So I plan on upgrading my graphics card before Age of Conan is released, but my computer hardware skills are minimum at best. So some help would be greatly appreciated.

Basically, I'm leaning towards getting a Nividia 9600 GT card http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-063-GW&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=356

But, I definitly need to upgrade my PSU (Using a 275w one, afaik), but I have zero knowledge of changing a PSU. Do I need to buy a specific one for my computer or something like that? How easy is it to install? As this video made it look piss easy http://video.about.com/pcsupport/powersupply.htm

The one I hand my eye on was http://www.ebuyer.com/product/119227/show_product_overview

So cheap and 600w ^^

If anyone else has any recommendations for other graphics cards/PSU's, please say. And thanks in advance :heh:

For the love of god, do not buy that power supply!!!

Firstly, 500W is more than suffient for that graphics card (which by the way, i recommend either the 8800GT or 8800GTS 512 instead...).

Buy one of these (yes, its alot more expensive, but i have the bottom one and its very good.)

Cheap option: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114929

Expensive option: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114931

FYI: I am an Antec whore... but only because they've served me so well over the years.

Will most likely order that one in the first link tonight then, but theres nothing I have to worry about or anything? Like it's compatible and all? (Sorry for being a nublet, don't wanna get blown up or anything :heh: )

And will get the 8800gt instead then, will order that at the end of the week though.

Thanks a bunch ^_^

Afaik, that PSU has a jack load of connections so you should be fine.

Plugging in a PSU into the motherboard is one of the easist things you can do, so don't worry about that.

And no problem :)

Isn't the 9600 GT an overclocked 8800 GT?

I was going through a few benchmarks about a month ago and the GTS (G92, 512 MB) has quite an edge over the GT, being almost on par with the GTX.

I have a GTS in my system at the moment and it delivers very good performance for the price.

Thats because its too new to be on that chart...

I have to ask, why did you buy a 9800GT when the 9900 series is out soon and its a totally new chip? The 9800 series is just a slightly changed (however more powerful) 8800GT/GTS 512.

How much will the 9900 be?

The 9800GT is plenty fast enough for me. It was a new PC so it didn't have a graphics card at all, just that integrated shit. I got the 9800GT quite cheap and thought it was worth it.

So the 8800GTS is better then the GT?

Would it best be getting this card then? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-088-OK&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=927

Yes; don't see anything wrong with this card although I don't know the manufacturer but most it is nVidia stuff anyways (sometimes the cooling unit isn't). So little should go wrong.
