MoogleViper Posted February 25, 2008 Author Posted February 25, 2008 Well Strider just showed me that so I'll have to ask him. Well this is the Dell PC Intel® Viiv™ Core™ 2 Duo E4500 Processor (2.20GHz,800MHz,2MB cache) Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Dell™ 19" Silver Wide Flat Panel Integrated Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator 3100 2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024] 250GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst™ cache 16x DVD +/- RW Drive 1 Year Base Warranty - Collect & Return Integrated 7.1 Channel High Definition Audio Price - £399 Or for £403.57 I could get an Acer X20I 20" TFT Monitor 1000:1 5ms instead of the Dell one. What do you guys think? Well I think I will go for this one because it has a bigger case. But the question now is the 19" Dell monitor or the 20" Acer? Also what graphics card? The 9600GT?
McPhee Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Choose "No Monitor" and order one yourself from ebuyer/scan along with the graphics card. That cheap 19" monitor that Dell bundle with they're PCs isn't worth the £110 that they charge you for it. You can get good LG and Asus monitors for around the same price, Samsung for a few quid more. As for graphics card, but whatever. Things are so close between the 3850, 3870 and 9600GT that it will barely make any difference anyway. They'll all run most games max'd out and they'll all go out of date around the same time.
RoadKill Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 9600GT, definitely. The 3870 is mostly neck and neck, but the 9600 comes out slightly on top, and is cheaper, so it wins
MoogleViper Posted February 27, 2008 Author Posted February 27, 2008 Which one is better? Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E4500 Processor (2.2GHz,800MHz,2MB cache) or Intel® Viiv™ Core™ 2 Duo E4500 Processor (2.2GHz,800MHz,2MB cache)? They're the same price.
MoogleViper Posted February 27, 2008 Author Posted February 27, 2008 So what is the difference?/Which one should I go for? (I am retarded when it comes to computers)
McPhee Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 They are the same, i.e. there is no difference between them
Caris Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 So what's the Viiv™ about then? EDIT: I was looking at Dell's today and i think they just come with a 300w PSU and that wouldn't be enough to power a 3870 or a 9600gt i don't think. Don't hold me on that but i think thats right.
MoogleViper Posted February 27, 2008 Author Posted February 27, 2008 They are the same, i.e. there is no difference between them So why is there two options?
McPhee Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 tbh im not sure why there are 2 options. Viiv is just a collection of standard technologies designed for media centres but im pretty sure it's standard in Core2Duo. Maybe it's a different motherboard? I can't think that there would be a difference in the Core2 chip. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viiv I'd put it down to Dell being silly...
Calza Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Yeah I've bought that Dell as well and I had no idea what to pick so I just went with the Viiv. I did get Viiv software with it though but I've never used it.
MoogleViper Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 I'd just Like to say a big thanks to Mcphee, Raining_Again, Caris, Calza, Strider, DCK, Apple_Ndib and anyone else I've forgotten. You guys make this forum great. OK end of bumming session.
