Can any recommend a good, easy and free, GIF maker program

You mean a program that will export to the gif format, in that case try gimp.

 

Or do you mean a program for creating animated gif files.

But you can use Gimp for animated GIF files (?).

It's what I use.

you caqn but i think it's a bit complicated.

 

I've used uLead in the past, it was pretty simple to use.
