Laptop screen resolution help

I've been having this problem where certain games do not like to use the full size of my laptop screen (14"/15"), if you look at the screen shots on the links, you will see. Can anyone explain to me why this is happening and how i can resolve it. Thank you for your time, any help much appreciated.

Your first problem is that you're using norton.

 

Has it been like this since you got the laptop. Have you installed the latest drivers? I recommend the Omega drivers for your ATi Card.

This doesn't seem like a driver issue, at all.

More the games don't propperly support your laptop monitors resolution.

 

Any chance of you testing out some more 'up to date' games?

black and white

unreal tournament (first one)

 

Works but small screen

age of empires 3 (slightly bigger screen not full though)

discworld

doom 1,2, final doom

quake 2

 

maybe something to do with certain games, both old and new :S

ok, messing around with quake 2, it seems that the type of opengl i use changes the size of the screen, i have almost filled it using a standered opengl, however it is not full, can anyone recomend a very good opengl for download for me to try... thankyou in advance

Try to look on some fansites, some made improvements to the games so that they support more resolutions or even feature better textures.

 

Only this week I discovered that there's a high-res pack for Duke Nukem that replaces the 2D sprites with 3D models and generally updates the texture resolution to modern standards.
