Posted June 2, 2007 Personally I want HD DVD to win because I could just buy the HD DVD player for my XBox 360 and start playing them without a MAJOR dent in my wallet :awesome: . I also have a general disliking for Sony. I think right now it's pretty close though, HD DVD has the upper hand in the naming (High Definition DVD... duh), porn industry and I think it's cheaper to make HD DVDs too. Problems with these are that consumers are getting more and more informed when it comes to naming, a lot more people are likely to know what Bluray is now than if this battle was going on 20 years ago. The porn industry, well, when people say VHS won because Porn went with it they are obviously forgetting that a hell of a lot more people get prom from the Internet these days, people couldn't do that back then. Bluray has more support from the film industry, it has higher capacity discs and of course every PS3 can play Bluray discs out of the box. Posted June 3, 2007 i say HD-DVD because i hate sony and want the PS3 to fail.haha, so true! Maybe a stupid question, but can HD-DVD players play standard DVD's aswell? I really hate to think we'll be moving on to ANOTHER format within the next few years! Is that what HD-DVD/Blue-ray is intended to be, the next format? How can the industry expect everyone to buy all their VHS' on DVD and then a few years later buy everything again on HD-DVD/Blue-ray! If that happens surely everyone will go mad!! The technology is very similar to DVD, its basically DVD 2.0 Further to this, some HD DVD disks are actually double sided, with the HD movie on one side and the SD equivalent on the other.
