Virgin Media Traffic Management

Recommended Posts

To bring back an old topic.

What broadband peeps don't impose any download limits or "traffic management"?

Very few.

Very, very few.

Companies have to buy the bandwidth they need from the internet backbone generally, which is slowly being overloaded and prices per MB are still going up.

So of course we're going to be limited.

Unfortunately, even on the Zen website they say this about home broadband:

It is likely that speeds no greater than 2Mb will be achieved at peak usage times.

I'm with Nildram and they have a 50GB usage policy, which I've never hit so I always carry over some extra, and apparently they've started using traffic shaping, but it's not affected me in anyway. I've read that some have been hit by it though, so I can't really recommend them with that in mind.

Is it me or have Virgin blocked the uTorrent ports?

If you have been using the pirate bay, its likely. What OS are you on because you can get round it.

Virgin Media does not block any ports it's perfectly fine here. It's either your firewall or router not forwarded properly.

Well, it's working fine now so I don't know what the matter was. My ports are forwarded correctly, etc. Oh well. Nice to know Virgin don't block any ports.
