Guest Jordan Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Okay, so you might have seen my thread in gen chit chat, these are the specs i'm thinking about for my new machine: If you can price this machine up cheaper else where, please show me. Thats from ebuyer.com I'm willing to change stuff, i have a limit here people also. £920, tops.
Guest Jordan Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 The problem with SLi'ing GX2's is that hardly any game even benefits from 2 never mind 4 graphics cards.
Guest Jordan Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Haha, i think you mean about the old unreliable Antec PSU's. Afaik, they are much better these days so, i'm willing to trust them.
gaggle64 Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 A 500watt-er might a tad underpowered though wouldn't it? The whole thing would probably explode if you ever even thought about upgrading anything.
Guest Jordan Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 A 500watt-er might a tad underpowered though wouldn't it? The whole thing would probably explode if you ever even thought about upgrading anything. The graphics card needs 200W or so, everything else would probably run okay. I'll look into that though, nice suggestion gags
Jon Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 I was gonna say the same, the wattage is fine enough but it is an antec, and £40 is pretty cheap for a 500 watt'er.
gaggle64 Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Spend a little extra now, and make sure you get yourself a decent PSU (700W should be enough for the foreseeable future) and a decent case (good case = cool components = you love PC long time), and save yourself a load of trouble later when you decide you want to SLI that muther and then quad core its ass. You know you will. To do so otherwise can only lead to madness.
Guest Jordan Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 I love Antec cases, the one i'm buying is really.
Shino Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Using a PSU calculator, and going for the minimum, the recommended PSU wattage is 405w so I guess that 500w is more than ok. Of course to be future proof you would be better with a 600w or more PSU.
Colin Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Maxtor HDD.............you sure? You going to be doing any overclocking on this either? Great list otherwise though................and I can't wait until I finally get my E6600 in the summer.
Caris Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Get a Seagate HDD. 320gb 16mb cache is a good choice.
Guest Jordan Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 I usually use Seagate, but this Maxtor is on offer... so i'm buying this one. The Seagate is far more expensive, come on guys i have a budget
Caris Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Fair crack meight. Im interested in seeing your temps in that case, ive heard all good stuff about it. EDIT: Thats what i forgot, spend the extra £12 and get a Artic Freezer 7 CPU cooler, trust me you wont regret it.
Guest Jordan Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 I already have an Antec for my server, its so cool. The CPU (a fanless heat sink only P3 1ghz) never hits more than 35C.
Caris Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Aye but the freezer 7 is also silent if your botherd about noise.
Guest Jordan Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Aye but the freezer 7 is also silent if your botherd about noise. I'm not really, due to my current machine is damn loud so this one should be alot quieter. Caris, i'd probably spend money on it... but damn i can't... seriously
