All the cables is just ridiculous.   Try using that sitting a decent distance away from the tv.

im truly baffled how someone at Nintendo didn't come to the conclusion that this is plain stupid.

This is the same company which said it didn't like bulky headsets. Remember that.

Oh and I just wanna say fcuk DeNa. I thought those guys were supposed to make things better. Idiots!!!

  2. I would not for one minute assume it would be any better next year.

Nintendo are totally clueless with these type of things.

Early version or not it not acceptable that the app  can not work with the phone in sleep mode or while other apps are open. That should never of been an option.

  3. This sounds like a complete clusterfuck but one shouldn't be surprised. As soon as they get said a phone app was needed most people questioned the logic in that.

Phone screen can't be be on, app can't run in the background lol. What are they thinking? Plenty of other app developers manage to develop apps that communicate with others not requiring such nonsense to work.

This is once again Nintendo showing that they just don't get it. Nobody asked for this solution but again they feel the need to come up with their own answer to the question that wasn't asked. We didn't ask for a new way to play with friends, we just wanted what you see on the competition and that would of been fine.

I hope the gaming media and community do not stop letting Nintendo know just what a joke this is and they get all the criticism they deserve.

As always with Nintendo its one step forward two steps back.

You really must just laugh at a tech company thinking this mess was viable.

    Quote

As Nintendo points out in the app's official FAQ, voice chat cannot run in the background while using your phone for other purposes such as "texts, social media, etc.":

"The voice chat will disconnect while you're talking on the phone or using another application, but your voice chat will restart in the same room once you open the Nintendo Switch Online application again as long as the game session is still ongoing."

What's more, early testing confirms that the app won't work if your phone goes into power-saving "sleep mode," with the screen inactive. And don't bother trying to use the app to chat with your Switch friends while away from the system, either: you can only join chat rooms with people when you're actively playing a specific, supported game with them.

This is all in sharp contrast to Sony and Microsoft, which have allowed simple party chat directly on their consoles—across games and at the system level—for years.

Practical impact aside, the design decision is simply baffling when you compare the Switch voice chat app to other phone-based chat solutions. Everything from Skype to Discord to the built-in phone app on your smartphone lets you continue talking to others while doing other things with the phone. For Nintendo to require its app to run in the foreground when other apps prove it's not necessary is just strange.

  4. I'm not a fan of these kinds of things where publishers are essentially asking gamers to beg for a release, no matter what the console. From a business point of view it is a free way of seeing whether the market is there for your product without having to do any research yourself but it still seems scummy.

However, they do sometimes work. Bandai Namco done this with Digimon on the PS4. They essentially held the localisation of the game ransom until enough support was shown in the West. Operation Rainfall is another example of fans having to beg for their games to be released and it working. Whether or not these companies had intentions of releasing their games over here anyway is another matter but on the surface these types of things do seem to get results from time to time.

I can understand with localisation decisions as it can take a lot of work with a risk of limited people wanting such a game.

With a game like DBZ I think as you say the publishers can do the research to get an idea of whether they feel the game would be commercially viable.

  5. French site Game Blog spoke with Dragon Ball FighterZ producer Tomoko Hiroki. Despite what some may say, the game not being on Switch isn’t a matter of the system’s technical specs or lack of power. Hiroki added that there hasn’t been any trouble porting over Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.

It isn’t clear why Bandai Namco and developer Arc System Works skipped on Switch for Dragon Ball FighterZ. However, Hiroki did say that if fans show their interest, they could bring it over. Hiroki did caution that Dragon Ball FighterZ may not come to Switch the same time as other versions, but they’re open to considering it.

    http://nintendoeverything.com/dragon-ball-fighterz-dev-says-no-switch-version-isnt-due-to-a-lack-of-power-open-to-porting-if-fans-show-interest/

I don't like how switch owners are assumed to not be interested in a game like this and somehow have to demand a release.

Nintendo platforms need to justify their existence in ways other platforms don't.

Just release games or not. Third parties don't need to announce games for other platforms and then ask switch gamers to show they want games. It's ridiculous.

    Dragon Ball FighterZ

    Disney Afternoon Collection

    MegaMan Legacy Collection 2

There are probably others as well. All switch owners can do that buy games that are released and third parties should work from that. Look at the hardware sales, look at the software sales and then come to a decision from that rather than this game of Switch owners needing to bombard Twitter begging for a release.

Just how many tweets does it take? A third party ask for Switch owners to show interest but how is t measured. I fail to believe thousands of retweets is how a third party would decide if it's worth developing a game for a platform.

  6. Sony, and I think Microsoft, only offer cloud saves if you subscribe to PSN and Live. If cloud saves come to the Switch then they will no doubt be part of the yearly subscription, just like the competitions consoles.

PSN you do but if not you can save to USB.

Live doesn't charge for cloud data saves which makes sense as you can't use USB on xb1 to save data.

Nintendo offer no option at all and we just guessing cloud storage will be part of the online sub. Knowing this company I would not be surprised if this time next year the same questions are being asked. File management, VC and Reggie responding with the same BS.

  7. Again Reggie isn't really saying anything. There is no real answer to the question.

Things such as file management and cloud saves should of been on the priority list when the console was being developed. It's ridiculous that this wasn't something they thought was priority but are only now addressing this.

It's a real shitty way to treat the consumer. What he said was if it doesn't make sense for Nintendo then everyone else can get screwed. Nice Reggie, real nice.

The online sub will likely involve cloud data which again will be anti consumer if the only way you can save data is by paying for a service.

  8. I have no doubt it's coming.

However, Virtual Console is a bit akin to Metroid in that it's a thing that people continually clamour for but don't actually sell that well.

Well when you repeatedly charge people for the same game over and over again it tends to piss people off. Not forgetting the overpricing of games and he ridiculous slow roll out of titles.

  9. I think it's quite clear they are so worried about hacks and homebrewing they are prepared to gimp the switch of basic features such as back up save files instead of themselves working on security.

We suffer because they don't want to do whatever it takes to ensure security forum the platform.

  10. 1 step forward 2 steps back with Nintendo. Always the way.

The phone app stuff is ridiculous but for me the worst is no way to back up save data. Reggie talks as if it doesn't really matter and it's not important.

It's completely absurd that they have not begun working on a save backup/transfer solution. Not just absurd but a real shitty way of treating the customer.

People just want to back up data which isn't too much to ask but Nintendo clearly think this going far and beyond for what we should expect from them.

Reggie is a grade A prick!!! Don't tell me you have heard the concerns but there is no solution. What good is that?

Virtual Console isn't coming to the switch anytime soon or even at all. They don't care.

How many platforms do they need to release before they can get a VC running in launch period?

Those who seem to think Megaman collection and Disney collection from Capcom were not announced for Switch because they would be VC releases think again.

  11. Another point to make is that World is having a worldwide simultaneous launch. This has never been done before in the franchises history. It could be a case of all hands on deck to get World finished on time.

As I mentioned earlier, western MH fans have had have to endure this kind of thing with the PSP games. It was a constant guessing game as to whether we would get a localized version or not. I had to play a couple of them in Japanese because I had no idea if we would get them over here.

I'm not trying to justify what they are doing, I'm just saying it's not surprising, even more so these days given how they mishandle their IPs.

True but wasn't the difference being Nintendo helped push the game in the West with advertising and marketing given Capcom more of an incentive to localize.

    Capcom tonight tweeted:

Just to clarify: our official response is we have not announced any plans to localize MHXX at this time.

They need to clarify this before XX is released in Japan so people know whether they need to import or not.

Or is the tweet simply down to them getting hammered on twitter for 2 days and they want it to stop.

  12. I have no issue with Capcom wanting to take the franchise to another platform.

What I find ridiculous is the game is already out on the 3DS and soon the switch in Japan yet they are not going to localize. It's ridiculous but it's Capcom and they have history of strange decisions.

MH stories is being localized but not MH XX. Capcom lose nothing by localizing the game. It's screwing over those already invested in the series in the West. Sticking two fingers up to those gamers.

  13. Basically, they used the typical Nintendo "think of the children" defense.

    And it's really hilarious.

Because nothing is more dangerous to kids than us filthy Switch-playing Scum.

    No-one's buying it.

Correct. If it was Nintendo doing this they would rightfully be getting ripped and no excuse would be seen as worthy.

Sony are reaching and its only going to get worse.

  14. I don't understand the no talking.

What's the need for a stage, with a huge audience if you are essentially just going to play video clips one after the other?

I know people want as much games as possible but I do feel this conference's need to have something else other than video after video.

If not just do what Nintendo do.

  15. It concerns me that this could mean XX doesn't get localized in the West and this will be the Wests MH in 2018.

The audience didn't really react at all. Not sure if Capcom expected more fanfare but there was very little reaction.
