  1. Shantae and the Seven Sirens

I was a little late to the Shantae party, but having just completed the first 3 games I’m looking forward to this! I’ve been really impressed at the games so far, and seeing how the mechanics have evolved over time. The witty writing & great music has been consistent, although I’m a little worried about starting HGH following the earlier comments from people.
  2. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I agree completely! It will do well to improve the visibility and popularity of Arms. I’m still disappointed though as there are so many other franchises I’d like to see recognised.
  3. N-Europe Video Game Club

Ori & the Blind Forest is my vote.
  4. Playstation Plus Free Games

Is Shadow of the Colossus a long game? I’m excited as it’s one of those games I’ve always wanted to experience. With my current backlog of games it would be good to know if it’s likely to consume hours of my time so I can plan whether to play it now or wait until I have enough time to fully enjoy it.
  5. Reading the news today it sounds like the major supermarkets are going on recruitment drives for temporary staff. I think it was Asda that specifically mentioned offering temp jobs to those that had recently lost theirs, so you’ve got a good chance. I think that’s a good thing. Provided they’re all taking the necessary precautions for their staff, it will help with the panic-buying madness and provide some money for people.
  6. N-E Café Podcast

I enjoyed it and always happy to hear more. It felt the right level to be able to join in & guess while listening. I wouldn’t want it to completely replace the regular discussions, but for me it definitely added to the Podcast (similar to the episode where you guessed the various Christmas tunes) and I certainly enjoyed it more as a result. Good work!
  7. General Retro Discussion

Thanks @S.C.G, I’m certainly keeping my fingers crossed! It’s currently sitting at just over £50 with half-a-week left so hoping for a late flurry! @Hero-of-Time certainly worth playing at some point. It’s a strange one, although I enjoyed the way your animal(?) evolved and that you had to play through it multiple times if you wanted to get the different evolutionary paths. Sadly the gameplay is a little basic. It was a neat concept and the block characters worked on its favour to show clearly the strength of the animals. One to say you’ve played it, but maybe not on anyone’s “Best Of” lists.
  8. General Retro Discussion

As an aside, if anyone is interested in collecting GameCube games, I’ve put in most of my collection individually on eBay, to end next Sunday. This includes many of the usual suspects, but also includes some of the rarer ones such as Chibi-Robo and the bizarre game Cubivore (US version since it never came out in Europe). Sad to see them go, but with such a gaming backlog I’m so unlikely to play them again (until Nintendo reveal some form of GameCube-mini or Virtual Console GameCube in the far-off future!).
  9. General Retro Discussion

I can empathise. I thought I’d finally gotten rid of all mine until I recently discovered another box of NGamer magazines, some of which I was mentioned in. Needless to say I’m now wrestling with my conscience again(!) in regards to throwing these out!
  10. N-E Café Podcast

Crank up that echo! 😁 Well done @Jonnas
  11. 3DS Console Discussion

I bought them off eBay, but they’re unfortunately no longer being sold. I’ve attached a picture of the original eBay item if that helps. They’re not quite as flush & secure as the original 3DS’s ones, but they rarely fall out, even when I try vigourously shaking my console! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. 3DS Console Discussion

I agree about this iteration being the best model. I hunted down some 3rd party telescopic styluses on eBay for £2. I didn’t hold out much hope but they work really well & stay in for the most part. I’ve had them fall out on occasion following some vigour is shaking, but they’ve been worth it rather than having to use the “twiglet” sized one!
  13. Switch eShop Thread

Two Point Hospital finally gets it’s console release today. This is likely to be my first Day One eShop purchase (for Switch anyway)!
  14. The Wonderful 101

Nice one @Vileplume2000. I’ve done the same as you. I figured I would be picking up the game anyway as they seem pretty reliable (& the Switch version was virtually complete anyway) and I enjoy Platinum’s games and this is just a small way of supporting them, and hopefully opening Nintendo’s eyes to their importance / popularity.
  15. N-E Café Podcast

Wow there’s a huge amount to take in over the past couple of pages... so I’ll keep my post short! Prediction: Metroid Dread is alive & well and will be released as a 2D platformer before Pikmin 4, despite our flowery friends having been rumoured to have been finished years ago! In regards to people discussing their ‘Best of’ lists: I enjoy reading / listening to other people’s views, and often hearing them talk lavishly about a game I enjoyed makes me remember just why I enjoyed it so much. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions and it’s fun to agree or disagree with them, and usually are easy topics to discuss.

Well done Sam & Mike for getting Plok! I’ve never played it, but here was my clearly wrong thinking from those clues last week: • Super Mario All-Stars: based on that VHS, but clearly those tunes weren’t from it. • Battletoads: again featured on that VHS and developed by Rare. Completely different style of sound though. • Wheel of Fortune: Rare developed a NES game and the SNES version actually thanks “Dave Lister” in the credits (Craig Charles’ character in Red Dwarf). I thought this would be an amazing link, but sadly the game contains a grand total of just one tune in it! • Super Robot Wars: since Craig Charles used to present Robot Wars when I watched it... sadly nothing else about that game was like the tunes or associated with Rare. Still, I enjoyed the clues and my laughably failed attempts to work it out! Kudos to Nick, plus Sam & Mike for being much smarter & more knowledgeable than me!
  17. N-E Café Podcast

If I wasn’t confused enough before about which game that music came from, now I’m completely flummoxed (& I like Craig Charles too!).
  18. Rate the last film you saw

Paw Patrol: Ready, Race Rescue As a parent with a child consumed by the merchandising machine & TV power of Paw Patrol, I was expecting something ever-so-slightly different to an extended episode of the TV show. Sadly, if course it wasn’t. My daughter and I saw the previous movie (Mighty Pups), which at least had a slight variation to the usual saving the day plot (that one included superpowers). This one was very much ‘Cars for 3 year-olds‘ although even my 3 year old was pointing out the plot faults in this one! They missed out on the obvious fan service (even if their fans are under 5) such as cameos by the newer characters, although I would probably still missed them had my daughter’s confusion not kept me from falling asleep! I don’t think my thoughts on this apply to anyone here unless you have an under 5... they will enjoy it, even if it is a terrible movie with a positive message for tiny people.
  19. The Wrasslin' thread

I agree with your thoughts on the event. I thought Becky vs Asuka was hard-hitting and excellent, just a shame it was the one match the crowd didn’t fully get into. I was disappointed with the Women’s winner for the same reasons, but the swerve this week with her choice is more the better for me.
  20. N-Europe Video Game Club

I’m happy with any of those choices, so I’m going to cast my vote for Kirby’s Dream Course.
  21. N-E Café Podcast

I agree 100%. Themes would be a great addition & I enjoy my 3DS ones. While realistically it wouldn’t work for every game, I’ve been rewarded with themes for completing some PS4 games. With the lack of an achievement system (which I would love on the Switch) this would be an enjoyable reward for completing games.
  22. The Wrasslin' thread

Tonight is the WWE Royal Rumble, always one of the events I am most excited about in the year! For me, the actual Royal Rumble matches have fallen considerably under the radar as far as WWE hyping them up. I’m hoping this means they are going to spring a surprise or two and actually under-advertising it will end up with them being better than expected. As long as the Men’s match doesn’t become a Brock Lesnar gauntlet match I’m predicting the following: Woman’s match: Winner Ronda Rousey with final 4 being her, Charlotte, Sasha Banks & Shayna Baisler. Men’s match: Winner Roman Reigns with final 4 being him, Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre and Finn Balor.
  23. N-E Café Podcast

Oh I’ve got it! Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego? Or 80 Days? Or Mario Kart: World Tour? Or Mario is Missing? 😁 No? Nope I’m out!
  24. N-E Café Podcast

Another fine episode. No idea on the transition tunes this week! Great discussion on the movies and TV shows too. Thanks @londragon for picking that one. There were some there I hadn’t considered too. I agree @Vileplume2000 about Ready Player One. I really enjoyed the book (I can see the heavy reliance on so many classic videogames as putting some people off but I loved it!). The film looked visually impressive but, yeah, the differences were noticeable and the film wasn’t that memorable for me.
  25. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I agree completely and expect that to be their plan too. At least going the 3rd party route has meant we’ve learned to expect the unexpected and it gives a much greater pool of characters and companies to try and negotiate rights with!
