  1. Majora's Mask

I was on another website discussing the greatest games of the last decade and naturally I had to mention this (only just qualified though), but doing so has also inspired me to play this up again, no bad thing. So, I decided to start that playthrough this morning and WOW, I still can't get over how fantastic this is. Haven't bothered advancing too much (currently on the way to Woodfall Temple) because I spent a while just milling around Clock Town trying to remember some of Bombers Notebook quests, and was surprised how much I had forgotten. Absolutely thrilled to be back on this though and I'm actually quite pleased that there aren't too many new releases on the horizon that interest me, so I won't get sidetracked for a little while.
  2. Brutal Legend

My anticipation just went even further through the roof. Shame I still haven't got around to pre-ordering it as I would also be enjoying the demo. Must get that done as this is almost certainly a release day must-buy for me.
  3. What is there for Wii this Q4?

TBH, I was wondering the same thing and I really haven't seen much (if anything) that interests me for the next few months. I may end up giving Silent Hill and Dead Space a look (cheers to LostOverThere for the reminder) and maybe Tales, but it really looks like another lacklustre holiday season for Nintendo, although Wii Fit Plus and NSMBWii will probably sell by the bucketload. To be fair, there isn't also that much that I am getting hyped for on the 360 either, and the only thing that I am looking forward to on that is Brutal Legend, so hopefully that delivers.
  4. Favourite All Time Villain

Seeing as I love most things David Lynch I just had to stick these two in (I don't think they have appeared in the thread yet). Frank Booth - Blue Velvet, awesome performance by Dennis Hopper and Bob, Twin Peaks
  5. Ju-On: The Grudge (Fright Sim, AQ Interactive)

After reading the hands-on it really doesn't sound too positive. Perhaps this is one game that Rising Star should have left in the East.
  6. Tales Of Vesperia

After getting myself a copy late last week I have been playing this a fair bit, finally something to get me off of Madden, and I am loving it so it was definitely worth the hassle of trying to score a copy. It did take me a little while to get into it and for the first couple of hours there was an air of disappointment but that has gone completely now, especially as the story has really kicked up a gear,
  7. Mac OSX Snow Leopard

Damn, I am so far behind the times as I'm still running on my old ibook with Tiger. I wonder if I can use this upgrade as a good excuse to justify saving for a new MacBook (seeing as my ibook won't run it).
  8. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

It's shaping up to be an inexpensive run-in for me, as the only games I will probably be picking up are :- 360 Brutal Legend NHL '10 (maybe) I'm sure there were one or two others but possible not Wii Dead Space Extraction (maybe) Rune Factory Frontier (Imported, seeing as it seems to have disappeared from PAL schedules).
  9. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

That makes more sense. Cheers anyway .
  10. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

I think someone must be having me on. Even so, my local Blockbuster is lame and hardly ever has anything in there. Anyway, looks like shopto have had a few in today at £35, managed to just grab myself a copy (hopefully anyway, as the site was showing last few copies).
  11. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

Tell me about it, I can't seem to find this game anywhere either and I really don't want to resort to ebay.
  12. Should I buy a 360?

I only came into read the thread and state 'yes' you should pick up a 360, as I haven't looked back since I got mine. That point is moot now anyway :p. However, this thread has also reinforced by desire/need to pick up a new telly when I get some funds, although I will say that I may be missing out a little bit, but my SDTV is also adequate enough for me for the time being.
  13. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

Just a heads-up for the very few of you that may be buying Madden '10 on the 360 (I also think this applies to the PS3 version). Seeing as there is no thread for the game I may as well stick this here. It seems that EA have screwed up regarding the online franchise. There should be a code in the back of the manual that is used to activate this feature, but apparently it hasn't been printed in the PAL versions. EA are aware of the issue and are looking to get it rectified, I have heard that a quick call to Customer Services with your Gamertag will ensure that a code gets sent to your message box but I can't confirm this yet (picking up my copy a little later today). I figured it was worth posting this as there is an option on the Marketplace to purchase the code, but this is primarily aimed at those who buy the game second hand (or want to extend the online franchise beyond 5 seasons), so, whatever you do, there is NO NEED to purchase the code otherwise.
  14. Wii General Discussion

I'm not sure if arrogant is the right word, but the statement does reek of passing the buck and EA really need to take some responsibility for their actions. See my earlier comments on Madden as an example. The '07 version was pretty realistic when you consider it was a launch title (even if it was a PS2 port with added motion controls). If EA were capable of producing that as a launch title then I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to continue to just move the series in a similar direction with gradual improvements each year, they are usually pretty good at this after all . Even '08 wasn't bad, it was a little buggy but it still maintained a level of realism, and I don't think many complained too much about the differences to the HD versions because we all knew that graphically at least there was never going to be a comparision. Then came '09 which offered a clear indication that EA clearly no longer wanted the more serious NFL gamer. The game got dumbed down even further, loads of casual orientated crap was added instead of any attempt to provide an improvement to the gameplay and more features were ripped out to allow for this casual crap to be built in. Looking at '10 (and it's woeful lack of features) it is further evidence that they WANT to embrace the casual gamer. So really whose to blame for their chosen direction. Madden isn't the sort of game that would capture the casual market due to some of the complexities of the sport and the EA team gambled on trying to capture that market and it looks to have failed, at the very least, man up and admit that they screwed up rather than blame the consumer, and it sounds more like a case of some staff choosing to bail from a rapidly sinking ship.

A surprisingly decent score when you consider that half (the best part) of the game is completely unchanged which is absolutely unforgiveable, and most of the additions are a waste of disc space. I do of course, say this not having played it though. I did almost stop reading when the reviewer wrote' Remember the gritty 09 visuals EA settled on?'. WTF, granted the player models were (until now) pretty decent, but if you regard fluorescent green pitches, only changing to dark green or whitish to reflect weather conditions (which incidently, didn't and still don't affect gameplay), cupboard cut out crowds, soulless looking stadiums and hugh gold arcadish lettering displaying down and distance, as gritty visuals then he must be living on a different planet to me. I didn't mention the stupid player or ball trails as they were optional and I turned them off within a couple of games last year. All EA had to do with the franchise, was to make small changes to the controls from the '07 version with minimal grahical updates and they would probably be in a better place than they are now.
  16. Brutal Legend

Le's just hope that this is a little more entertaining, Pick of Density wasn't exactly great was it ? I wonder of it may have something to due with Activision having licensed Metallica for the GH series, just an idea. God forbid (), that they're given another excuse to file a lawsuit.
  17. Brutal Legend

After first hearing about this at e3 I am really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I really hope it manages to live up to my ever increasing expectations. That soundtrack alone is absolutely incredible.
  18. Wii General Discussion

Yep, reminded me why I haven't given up completely on the Wii just yet.

  20. Wii General Discussion

Not a fan of the new look at all, last years was bad enough and I didn't think it could get any worse than that. But, maybe EA may have got it right when you consider the perceived 'market' for Wii, and they have admitted that is the market they are going after with the visuals. But that's the least of the problem, when comparing the feature list of the Wii version to those of the 360/PS3 it really is an insult to anyone who wants to enjoy an indepth game of Girdiron. The gap in features seems to be growing each year and I don't see EA doing anything to reverse this, even though I am sure it sold pretty badly on Wii last year. It may not harm the series but I can't see it doing it any favours either, and the amount of posts on EAs own forums about players switching from the Wii to 360/PS3 versions is alarming (if not unexpected). Whether some of those make the jump like I have, is another story. Better warp this up, before it turns into a long winded rant, about an admittedly niche title in this part of the world.
  21. Wii General Discussion

It's just a shame that they aren't putting the same amount of effort into Madden (or at least, review the direction it's taking) and still no attempts to resurrect the NHL series on Nintendo consoles.
  22. The Homebrew Channel

My SD card and reader arrived today so I decided to finally take the plunge, it's probably also the first time the Wii has been switched on in nearly a month and a half (but that's another story). Had no problem getting the Homebrew Channel installed, but then had a minor panic wondering why the menu was blank, popping bubbles is only interesting for so long. This panic was over when I suddenly realised I hadn't installed any apps . Figured that part out and got the Homebrew Browser installed, easy enough, followed shortly by Gecko. The upshot of this is that I can finally see this again :- Not since the Disaster DoC update have I had the pleasure of playing this so that is where I shall be spending the next few hours. After that, I will definitely need to explore what else the Homebrew scene has to offer. EDIT - After reading the above link about BootMii I thought it was worth installing but I'm not sure if my first attempt got corrupted because it just wasn't working. Retried it though and seems to be all good now, probably worth having the back-up, just in case.
  23. The Homebrew Channel

Glad to hear that it was easy. I'm just waiting for my card reader and a new SD card to arrive then I will be giving it a go. I just hope it goes as easily for me.
  24. The Homebrew Channel

I have recently been thinking about exploring the Homebrew Scene, I already know links etc (so no I won't be asking how ). The only reason I hadn't before was because I was concerned about bricking the Console, but seeing as I am now spending less and less time on the thing I am now more prepared to run the risk. The main reason for wanting to do it, is to get back the ability to run imported games, especially as I seriously miss playing MLB Power Pros because I absolutely loved that game. From what I have read (and your post pretty much confirms this) is that there is so much more to explore in the world of Homebrew so hopefully no-one comes along and kills this thread.
  25. Little King's Story

Just to prove I am not completely biased :p. Only negatives I can think of are : Some people have run into a game breaking glitch where you can't access your save file/or it gets corrupted. I don't think it's a common issue and when I last checked there didn't seem to be a known cause or way to avoid it, just dumb luck really. Obviously, a major problem if you do run into it though, so it may be worth keeping a working back-up save on SD. Minor issues include, pathfinding when you control a larger army. This is almost eliminated later in the game when a couple of new options present themselves but it doesn't go away completely. The aiming can be a little twitchy and the camera is a little awkward in a couple of places but nothing that is a serious problem and you do get used to things. That being said, there are far too many positives about the game to let even the potential game breaker ruin the experience. Which reminds me, I must be due to crack on with another playthrough soon.
