Intriguing

Interesting good?

This thread seems to be getting less and less replies now that people are finishing the game Loving the bit building up to the 5th dungeon. This game gets better and better. Although I wish they'd made the new area you navigate through a bit bigger! You literally spend 10 seconds going from point B to point C.

Just done fourth dungeon, fantastic. It had a real Wind Waker vibe I thought. The boss was great fun, and the cutscene afterwards was very cool, finally a bit of epic-ness! Adoring this game, really really loving it. Yes there are flaws and dodgy parts to it but because it's just so much FUN it's forgiven

The S*****t R***m was amazing I thought. Spooky and nerve-wracking and at least you could sort of forgive the way the game asked you to do it three times for each area because of the storyline. The fetch quests that get you into the dungeons though are way too convenient and predictable. They could have mixed it up a bit more. Edit: loving the fourth dungeon :-)

^ Great to know, thanks! I assumed as no one mentioned any dungeon past 6 I was nearing the end. As for the fetch quests, although I can't remember any of the other 3D Zeldas sending you on such blatant ones (apart from the triforce hunt), I personally don't mind them in this game, it gives you a good reason to explore the land. But I do think they'll be the main criticism the game will have attached to it over the years.

Fi started out with a bit of personality when you first get the sword. She was quite snarky to what's his name, but seems to have lost anything of interest since.

I really like selecting and using items as the game was going on around you, but agree those sorts of controls took a lot of getting used to. At first I hated having to hold down Z to target, but now I wouldn't have it any other way. It works well for combat IMO. One thing that pisses me off though is when you have Link facing the camera, you take a weapon out to aim but instead of leaving Link facing/aiming in that direction and moving the camera around instead for 1st person view, it makes Link turn around and face the other way then goes into 1st person. Very annoying.

From the sound of things, the ending bits are quite good then? For those who have completed it, I've just gotten into the fourth dungeon, I assume once that's done I'll be about two thirds through the game? I'm really surprised by the lack of story-telling cutscenes, I expected this game to be really fan wanky and put in loads of Zelda mythology stuff. I guess that prob comes later.

This game is a real contender for worst soundtrack in a Zelda game. The music is so totally lacklustre and forgettable. After Wind Waker and Mario Galaxy, this is what we get?? And is it so much to ask for a few seconds of traditional Zelda music?? There seems to be less and less with each passing game. The visuals however, are stunning.

I should probably know this but who at Nintendo was in charge of Wind Waker? Aonuma?
-
Grazza, I still don't understand what you want from a Zelda game. You want it to be structured and samey after 25 years, to know and predict the exact sequence of events you'll be going through to get to the next dungeon? Isn't that exactly what Skyward Sword offers? It seems even more structured than OOT anyway.
-
Ocarina is allowed, it was the first 3D Zelda and they had to make it quite accessible. Majora's Mask didn't hand hold you at all, and neither did Wind Waker. It gave you hints where to go, but especially later on, you had to find your own path. Skyward Sword does seem incredibly linear and 'do this' 'ok now do that'. It's a shame. I do agree it's the hardest of the 3D Zeldas, and I'm saying that having only finished 3 dungeons.
-
All subjective and very debatable.
-
Grazza no offence pal, but sometimes I think you don't know what you want from a Zelda game.
-
Also I HATE that final paragraph from Fi after you Z target an enemy. "You have defeated zero of these enemies......". What's the point! Like people are really going to call her up to find that info out.
-
Haha her telling you about low batteries I can just about deal with, but EVERY TIME you get down to 3 hearts??
-
I'm a little surprised by the lack of story-telling cutscenes, the lack of any kind of traditional Zelda mythology (up to half way where I'm at, that is) or the lack of the recognisable Zelda music. Then again being a prequel I guess it's to be expected. Quite amazing how high standards the Zelda series has, says it all about how high the bar has been raised for every new game to try and reach.
-
^ not keen on spoilers ;-) Surely that's the whole point, to break away from the formula, something that's a lot of people's main criticism of Twilight Princess. On the other hand, Majora's Mask and Wind Waker were totally out of left field and re-invented the wheel whilst keeping the core values intact. Skyward Sword is doing exactly the same. So there's no giant overworld to explore, you've got every other Zelda game in existence for that. This is a much more focused attempt to breathe life into EVERY area, something it succeeds at IMO. Having said all that, I agree with Hero of Time that it's not a patch on Wind Waker, that was an absolute masterpiece of a game in every way possible. Yes there are plenty of flaws and weak bits, but Skyward Sword is still fantastic in its own right (he says only about half way through). It's all subjective anyway.

Just did the first trial

Yeah I miss that as well, but it's great being able to charge at your enemy and draw your sword at the same time. One annoyance I have though is having to constantly re-equip my shield. Changing items and drinking potions whilst the game is going on is great though.
-
No doubt the number of comic relief characters will double again. It's funny as appallingly terrible as 2 was, I can actually remember bits from it, as opposed to 3 which I can't remember a single bit in it.

FFS Hamishmash!!!!! Spoilers! Thanks very f-ing much.

I can't understand why so much emphasis and chat is placed on motion controls. They're fine, they work well, conversely, no motion controls would also be fine. I'd rather Nintendo focus on creating an excellent Zelda game for the Wii U full stop than worrying about whether the shield/nunchunk needs gyro controls.

The new style Beamos and Armos are fantastic! And those flying things that shoot at you in the third dungeon? Great fun taking them down with your shield.
