  1. Unfortunately not. it's an all or nothing. There should be some cheap games, like EDGE that are only a couple of euros though.
  2. Just be glad there wasn't a heatwave, too!
  3. There's a reason things have dropped in Japan the last two weeks. There was a tax increase at the start of the month so that's increased the price of everything. There was actually a significant increase the week before as everyone rushed to get things at the lower price.
  4. Yes you can use it on the 3DS eShop A good way to get something cheap is to upgrade a Virtual Console game that you bought on Wii and have yet to upgrade to Wii U.
  5. Hindsight is 20/20. Looking back, it was a bad decision to let it slide, but back then it would have been very, very, very high financial risk. Hell, remember the massive backlash Skylanders received on its reveal?
  6. Virtual Console is being sorted from the looks. We're no longer looking at 1 title a week if we're lucky What we need, though, is the third parties like Square Enix, Capcom, Namco etc. releasing their titles in the west more. Secret of Mana, for example, came in Japan around a year ago and yet we don't have it.
  7. That's just not possible. The entire OS would have to be coded. Patches would have to be coded & pushed out for all games. It really isn't something they can just decide on a whim to remove just because it doesn't have a single title to make people think it's massive selling point
  8. Wii U is NOT last generation. Generation has nothing to do with power. Come on, you know this. Couldn't let that slide, sorry. Off I go again.
  9. This isn't the PC. This is a console with a developer who wants a fixed, solid framerate.
  10. Not really. If anything, it's a hindrance due to smaller field of view
  11. I fail to see any hypocrisy. These are games. They were built around the GamePad. Yes, things could potentially be mapped to normal controls, but you can say that about anything that's new. I'm going to leave this thread for a while now, anyway, else we're all going to end up in one of the arguments that caused issues in the past.
  12. Be fair, Wii Party U is great. Sing Party, you're right, is god awful. So what some are mini-game collections? Should we ignore Xbox One games because they're shooters, or racers? Or ignore Kinect games because they're sports related? I wasn't saying these were system sellers. I was saying that they were titles built around the GamePad. Please don't put words in my mouth. You know how I hate that. Also, TW101 used it for creating the unite morphs, as well as the camera changes. The camera changes are also a decently done part. "The market" can determine what it wants, but if a price cut isn't feasible for Nintendo, it's not going to happen, regardless of what "the market" wants.
  13. Bit sad, sure, but to keep fixed performance, it's fully understandable. 2 player: Fixed 60fps (including online) 3-4 player: Fixed 30fps (which is why it can't be online. Gives other players an advantage)
  14. Nintendo developed/funded games built around the GamePad (excluding off-tv play): NintendoLand (cannot be played without it) Game & Wario (cannot be played without it) Sing Party (Urgh. Didn't want to mention it, but it would be wrong for me to ignore it.) Wii Party U (cannot be played without it) Lego City Undercover (cannot be played without it) The Wonderful 101 (can be played without it...awkwardly) Pokémon Rumble U (can be played without it. Built around the NFC feature in the GamePad) Art Academy: SketchPad (cannot be played without it) So it's not just NintendoLand. Please refrain from exaggeration
  15. They are though. Again, things don't have to be mega amazing showcases of it. Off-TV Play is using it (Do note, Off-TV play was the original concept behind the GamePad so anything else is extra). Using it for various touch controls in games is using it. A dodgy EA port used it badly, so you're judging it on that? And there will be. It's not bullshit, it's the truth. The only time I have issues is when I'm moving down the stairs, and that's where it loses connection. Also, Off-TV play has been a godsend to many of my friends who only have one TV but live with their partner. Just because they can record TV doesn't mean it's pointless. With that logic, you can also play the game later. It's a decent subtle touch. It's Nintendo expecting you to explore the uses of it rather than have it slapped in your face. That's how gaming used to be, now we're at the point where games show/tell you exactly what you have to do Yes, Metroid Prime has motion controls, subtle onces that aren't forced. That's my entire point. Excuses? You asked if Nintendo showed developers the concept when in development. I said yes and then stated when things went awry. Nothing I said is "making excuses".
  16. I've been watching Nintendo's E3 conferences of late (2002-2007 so far) and there is a running theme...risk and disruption. It's what Nintendo has been doing with their hardware since 2004 and the Wii U is just like that. However, unlike the DS, Wii and eventually 3DS, the risk just didn't pay off. They can't take risks and succeed every time. That's not how the world works. The GamePad in concept could be a complete gamechanger (I argue, and have countless times, that it is already). As such, they went to disrupt the industry again rather than just go the "More Power" route of the other formats. As such, the GamePad adds to the cost. You cannot just compare it to other console prices because you're completely ignoring the other tech costs within the overall package. It's not just about graphics.
  17. If it was doing like £100+ profit, then yes it would be a rip off.
  18. RRP is £249.99. Which is not too much Zelda bundle RRP is £249.99 New Super Mario Bros/New Super Luigi U bundle RRP is £249.99 Wii Party U bundle is £249.99 Just Dance 2014 bundle is £249.99 Lego City Undercover bundle is £249.99 Other places have inflated prices due to demand in the marketplaces. Also, the Wii U is not "on par" with the PS3/360. It's more powerful, the developers just have to tap it. Look at Mario Kart 8. Running that, with the effects, lighting etc. at a locked 60fps is not possible on those consoles. Yes, it's closer to the PS3/360 than the PS4/Xbox One, but it's disingenuous to say it's on par. We're paying this price because the device is physically worth the price. Nintendo isn't a charity.
  19. The difference is that Microsoft have third party royalties and their subscription service to help absorb the hit, not to mention the behemoth of Microsoft behind them. It's not set for £299.99. It's set for €299.99. This means its price will also match UK RRP which is £249.99
  20. Isn't the current recommended price £249.99?
  21. No. If they were to take a massive chunk off so everyone would be happy, then it selling would do far more damage than it not selling, especially as there are no third party royalties coming in.
  22. And at £100 lower, if it took off, it'd bankrupt Nintendo easily. They would likely have been at a profit if not for the price cut in October last year. Now, it's likely to be nearing, but it's still a way off.
  23. Totally worth it!
  24. That's current Wii U RRP. Need I go over the financial hole it'll put Nintendo in to take a price cut again? It'd gut the company. High sales at significant loss are worse than low sales at the current situation.
