  1. Nintendo Holding a Conference- October 2nd

A DS remake has been hinted at since the DS lite went on sale. As nintendo say, they are always looking at new ways to improve their products so I wouldn't put it passed Nintendo to make one more iteration of the DS to hold everyone at bay while they finalise the next handheld. But I hope they don't show a new iteration and, as has been said, keep it for the next one. I think we'll be lucky for many big announcements. I'm hoping that the storage solution is announced but I'm not hopeful that it'll be shown or that it'll be a hard drive, which of course will lead to some drawn out stupid way to store data. I believe they'll announce Disaster's release date for America at the American conference which should put it roughly in November/early December. I'm not holding out for any big game announcements. But yeh I would like to see some new DS games but I think Nintendo's DS studios are working on stuff for the next handheld. We'll just have to wait and see.
  2. Question About Game/Station

Looking at that list of games the price breakdown will be probably £1 for the majority of the games and in some cases only about 50p for some of the other older games (such as half life). You may get more money for games such as Killer 7 but not much more. If you take it as £1 per game on trade you'd get about £79. I think you may probably get £80 + but only just. And this is Gamestation. At game, you'll probably be lucky to get £50 for the whole lot.
  3. How was your day?

I didn't actually like Twelfth Night. Don't know why. A lot fuss happening in the story for no real reason other than one-upmanship. Last Shakespeare I did was The Tempest and I really enjoyed that. Have King Lear to look forward to as well as a whole bunch of other books like Beowulf.
  4. How was your day?

My days going well so far. Have managed to finish Twelfth Night so I'll give it a quick gloss over later on this evening to remind myself of the story and the comical aspects for tomorrow's English lecture. Don't know what to do now? Not got anything to do. Would put some time in on my Wii but I haven't got anything I want to play on it. May go out and treat myself to either de Blob or Wario Land. Or I may just go and get a copy of Geist and play that again. Urgh... I don't know. I hate Sundays. Nothing to do. TVs always crap (although Pans Labyrinth is on tonight )
  5. Rate the last film you saw

The Island I remember going to see this with friends when it first came out at cinemas and coming out of the cinema wondering why I had bothered. It wasn't as bad as I remembered and while it is purely science fiction, some of it is just utter bollocks. Point in case: McGregor and Johansson on the big R sign plummeting to the ground and managing to hold on all the way down so they could let go and land in a safety net for a construction site. Obviously, the story has certain bits which are relevant to what is happening in today's science such as
  6. The University Thread 08/09

^ I know what it's like. Before I started Psychology, I was going to do art or architecture. I had been going to school in Edinburgh for years and it just wasn't an option for me. Was so hard to find decent places. I mean there are loads of good art colleges, ECA for example is really good, but it comes down to the city/town where the college is situated. Didn't look into Glasgow for art but then I have met people from there doing art who say it's good. The one thing I will say about the London art colleges are that they are notoriously hard to get into. One of my friends was going to go to one of them, can't remember the name, and he was really good at art (when he could be bothered to do any work) and he had to take a year out to work on his folio before he could go. Just thought I'd give you a heads up on that. Dundee's good for art as well from what I saw when at the open days.
  7. Wario Land: The Shake Dimension

All releases after Smash Bros was released in Europe carry the firmware that blocks the Freeloader. Well, at least I think it's only Nintendo's games that carry the updates.
  8. Mixtape II: Judgement Day. Closed and dated.

My mix isn't going that great. Who knew making an all riser would be so hard. Out of a list of 20 songs I compiled as potentials, only 5 are of the right kind to make it into the mix. Argh....... Gonna be a little while longer before I complete mine.
  9. Disaster: Day of Crisis

Considering there was very little information available about the game prior to release and very little advertising, that's not bad for a first day. It could have done much worse. I do think that it'll do better in the west.
  10. Japan Sales: 15 - 21

Just pointing out... the first graph after the two pie charts has the Wii and PS3 mixed up as the Wii has had the majority share in the weekly console sales compared to the PS3 which has been consistantly second expect for a few occasions.
  11. Wario Land: The Shake Dimension

Still contemplating getting this. I don't have the money for it (typical student) and I could have traded something in for it today in Gamestation but I wasn't wanting to let go of any of my games. The only one I might get rid of is Okami yet I've started playing through it again for the second time. Hmmmm.... what to do?
  12. How was your day?

Another quite day for me. Got up, ate breakfast and continued my watch through of the entirity of the OC (about 89 episodes to go). Went to uni for a lecture, where I some how managed to pick the only row in the lecture theatre where most of the seats were broken. Found a seat but was left on my own. A bit stupid of me but I wasn't exactly about to get up and move. Was comfortable. Then I had a lab safety thing for two hours. So booooooring! It went over all of the emergency precedures, PPE and how to use a microscope. I know all about those so it was really a waste of time. Did finally get round to speaking to someone other than the voices in my head. Worked together through the thing and she seemed nice. For the life of me, though, I can't remember her name. We didn't introduce ourselves because we had name tags but I wasn't really paying attention. Talking to much. Should do it more often. But I know I won't. Also heard Don't Stop Believin' by Journey blaring out of Gamestation so I popped in to have a listen.
  13. Jaywalking taken to the extremes

I know I shouldn't have but I couldn't help but laugh as they kept running away from the police. What absolute nut jobs. I mean, I've diced with death a few times with having to cross a motorway to get home but that was just bat-shit insane of them to keep running into the road. They are very lucky not to have been killed. And these people were swedish... the most health conscious country in the world and that's what they were doing...
  14. Post Your Purchases

@ Domstercool - Just out of curiousity, have you watched Tales from Earthsea? Was just wondering if it's any good or not. Need some new films to watch and this one is sort of on my radar but I haven't heard much about it. Anyways, bought Bioshock on pc and my bro got Need For Speed Prostreet on pc as well for some reason.
  15. How was your day?

My day was a bit meh. Spent all morning watching the OC when I should have been reading Shakespeare. Then I had to get on over to Dundee for my buddy thing but had to waste an hour and a half in town with nothing to do. Did find a Snes in Cash Converters so when I get money I'll go back in and buy it with a couple of games. Buddy thing was ok. A few more people. Mainly girls although we did get a nigerian guy who was studying accounting/finance. I had to stop myself from laughing at that. All I could think of was the Nigerian scammers you get on the net and other places. But he was a nice guy. Had a little chat with him on the way out of the union but it was short as I had to sprint about a mile from the union to the station in 5 minutes. Made it though. It seems all that long distance running over the summer did a lot of good. And I swear to god that the two girls who are taking my buddy group were eyeing me up. They're both attractive enough but they're both older so it's probably a no go. I'll just have to keep an eye on them and see if they continue doing it. If so I may use the greatest pick up line ever (those in the know will know what it is )
  16. Disaster: Day of Crisis

Watched a prologue trailer earlier that had gameplay footage in it. It does indeed look great. Really looking forward to it after watching that trailer. Shame the guy playing couldn't control the camera better, he completely forgot about it at many points.
  17. The Music Thread.

@ chairdriver - it all comes down to taste. I personally never liked Kate Bush's original version of the song. I've always enjoyed the covers more. I loved Within Temptation's cover and I love Placebo's cover. I'm of the opinion that Placebo's is the best. However, as I said, it comes purely down to taste. @ JonSt - That cover of Champagne Supernova is great. It's still one of my most regularly played songs.
  18. Mixtape II: Judgement Day. Closed and dated.

^ ok so now at least I have a deadline to work to. That's good. Right anyway to my point. I have a list of 15 or so songs that I've put together for my mix. However, due to a swollen ear thanks to my brother playing his music and guitar too loud, I can't actually listen to the music to see whether it mixes/fits well and to choose the 10/12 songs and what order they'll go in the mix. So I was wondering if anyone would be up for doing a bit of testing for me to see what they think and help me out. I'll just pick the first person who is willing to help and I'll pm you my list of songs and you can have a look at them. So, yeh, if anyone can help me out, I would be pretty greatful. Sucks having a swollen ear as it means I can't do what I love doing most... listening to music.
  19. The Music Thread.

@ Somme - yeh I heard it while watching it earlier. It's actually a really good cover of Bush's song. Much better than her version. 'Hallelujah' by Jeff Buckley was on one of the episodes in the first season. That's what I'm watching through at the moment. Was on episode 2. The one where Luke/Ryan burns down the house. I will say though that the OC introduced me to loads of music I would never have listened to, case in point: Into Dust by Mazzy Star. If I hadn't heard it I would have simply dismissed it.
  20. The Music Thread.

Been watching a bit of the old OC lately and remember how good it was for finding awesome music. Been listening to Mazzy Star's "Into Dust" and Rachael Yamagata's "Worn Me Down." Working my way through the songs from the OC and picking up anything that takes my fancy.
  21. The University Thread 08/09

Just come back from my day at uni. Such a waste of time. Was there for an hour for a psychology lecture/registration thing where I was told stuff I already know. Good news was tomorrow's psychology lecture has been cancelled. Bad news is that that same lecture being cancelled means that I now have to dick about for an hour and a half until my buddy group thing if I want to go. Won't get home until late because of it so I'm trying to weigh up the pros and cons for going to it. Pro is that it's at the Union so I can meet others. Con is that I won't be home till very late.
  22. The University Thread 08/09

@ Blackfox - No. I'm doing a Psychology degree but I'm taking english as a module, along with Biomolecular mechanisms. It's not too bad. I've just finished the first act in Twelfth Night so it's easy enough to finish it before next monday. Just need to get a copy of the book for my tutorial and I'll be sorted.
  23. How was your day?

My day was ok. It's just got better though. I bought myself a brownie and decided to save it until now. I've since started eating the brownie (which I must say is big enough to pave a driveway with) and I have to say it's the most indulgent thing I've tasted in ages. It's sooooooooo nice. Gonna get another one tomorrow.
  24. Mixtape II: Judgement Day. Closed and dated.

I'll probably post something to Japan. I'll post my mix anywhere. Once it's done that is. Got about 14 songs preliminarily picked out so far and probably gonna add a couple more before I pick the best 10 songs to go on the cd. The all riser idea has been hard and I don't think I'm gonna pull it off but I'll have a play through of my songs and see what I've got. I think I may also put together a mix of unknown bands, mainly rock and metal. Nothing heavy. Once I've sorted out my all riser mix, I'll start work on that so if it's of any interest to anyone let me know and I'll see about getting a copy sent. Will be a few weeks before I can get that done but I'll keep you updated if you're interested.
  25. The University Thread 08/09

A long day at Uni. It went well. My english and psychology lectures went well. Then I get home at 5.35 which is ridiculous (going to be even worse on thursday. Really need to start looking at flats). Checked my webmail for the uni to be greeted with a very nice email from the head of english telling me that I need to read Twelfth Night by monday for next weeks lectures. I only joined english yesterday and missed in the intro lecture where apparently people were told what I've just been told. So I'm not best pleased. I need to get hold of a copy of the play and read all 200 or so pages of the damn thing and be able to talk about it during my tutorial class next friday.
