Yeah that was what I was getting at - I'm aware that right now it does nothing - but the ability to drag players into position suggests it mihgt be integrated in future (even if right now it can't be saved). More or less agree with you. I think just adding vague player positions would add enough without overcomplicating - putting a good / fast midfielder on the right wing if your opponent is playing a poor left back, for example.

Main thing with this update, though, is the implication of in-game changes that would use the new tactics screen - The way that you can choose where abouts in midfield a player will play suggests a move toward introducing wingers / player roles rather than the simple defence / midfield / attack of the moment. According to Roger Fed this has been hinted at in blog posts by the xpert staff. Would people welcome that, or do you think it would be a bit too football-manager-y? Kind of like the relative-simplicity of xpert. Then again i do like the idea of moving Rosebotham up the pitch, whilst Iwao Akera pulling the strings from the back of midfield in a Modric-esque role. I like it in any case. Maybe it'll help me get my first win in 7 games or whatever. Shocking season...

So, two games. I mean, I'd say I'm not in the position to say how good our new players are yet (nor to rate last seasons players in our current setup) after watching 700andsomething minutes of Spurs this season, so I doubt you are. Lets be honest, there's some real quality in both midfields - when all the new players are settled in it's going to be a cracking game at the Lane come march.

Ffff that was exhausting. Spurs dominated first thirty, then all Chelsea when Mata came on. The Mata situation seems even more bizarre with each game. Thought we'd steal it after the strange Torres red. Wouldn't mind giving Defoe a PL start - he's a great season, could thrive from this season's midfield. Love the Erikson / Gylfie duo.

Ozil's a quality purchase, even for such a high price. Probably not in the position you Goons most needed to buy in but he'll still improve the team for sure. My question: why did Ozil want to go to Arsenal? I know his wages will probably have skyrocketed, but he's going from being a starter in a top top club to go to a club that haven't won anything for a long time, are barely scraping a champions league qualifying spot each year, and haven't exactly added a host of great talent recently. Don't mean this in a snarky way, but a genuine question (Going to Spurs would for a Spanish player appear to be even more of a step down, of course, not being CL regulars). In Spurs news, I'm finding it baffling that we've loaned out Assou Ekotto considering noone's come in at LB. Sure we've got Rose but he's only just back from loan and Vertonghen can fill in but I'd prefer him in the middle. Bit of a worry-area... Come on now. Lloris's saves are part of our defensive game, not a lucky get out of jail free card for a couple of fuck-ups. The high defensive line only works because rushes out whenever a through ball is played though the back line. And don't kid yourselves, it could easily have gone either way, more possession and shots - and like Lloris Szczesny made a couple of decent saves. Pretty even match. More gutted that Capoue picked up a nasty injury. Are you saying great players don't exist outside of great teams? Why have Real paid so much for a 'europa league quality player?' Lamela and Soldado are both the best players in very good teams. Makes more sense to get in some quality medium-priced players than splurge on one player on massive wages (that said I'm still not over missing out on Will.i.an...) Anyway. Back to hammering f5 on the guardian website. Praying Arsenal don't land Ozil. Also: Moses is a quality loan signing for Liverpool. Hope he gets more gametime than he did at Chelsea..
