Ninty 182 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Well I've got some MP3 format sound files and when I try to play them on my Windows Media Player 10 it says the file has 'an extension that doesn't match the file format'. What should I do? do I need a different player? or can I just download something? Oh and I've tried converting it but it says I can't access the file.
Bogbas Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 I fail to see why would anyone use wmp to play mp3's, but each to their own I guess. You could try to use another program, like winamp for example. Or if all fails see if vlc can play it.
Ninty 182 Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 I've tried VLC and it won't work. The main problem is that I can't play it on my SonicStage, hence I can't upload it onto my MP3 player either. ------------- Oh and It's seems it's just these files that have 'an extension that doesn't match the file format' as other MP3 Format Sounds I have will play and upload fine. Any Suggestions
Bogbas Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Download this http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/index.html and see what file it is. Because it seems like it's not an mp3
Ninty 182 Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 It says the file type is unknown and the Mime type is unknown. That's all it says, dunno what it means
Bogbas Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 It means that it's not a valid sound file. So if you downloaded it, it might be corrupted, or it's not a valid sound file to begin with. Or if you compressed it yourself something got screwed up during the process.
Ninty 182 Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 Yeah I downloaded it. Does that mean there's nothing I can do about it? I can't really get this file anywhere else and it's happened a few times with other similar files.
Bogbas Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 You can try to re- download it, but if it's a 'dummy' -file there's nothing that you can do it to make it play the song. Because the file doesn't contain the music.
Ninty 182 Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 Man that sucks. Thanks for your help though, appreciate it.
Emasher Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 dude download iTunes and put your mp3s in that http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ make sure you click the windows box before download unless your smart and have a mac
Mr_Odwin Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 unless your smart and have a mac Not too smart though.
Bogbas Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 dude download iTunes and put your mp3s in that http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ make sure you click the windows box before download unless your smart and have a mac I was going to post this (no offense though, just as a joke) http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20060513 But then it got me thinking. Maybe the file is drm- protected? If that's so you'd be able to play it as soon as you pay for it. Then the itunes solution would actually work. But if it's just some file containing random bits, itunes won't play it either. I'm not 100% sure if it works that way, as I don't have any experience on drm mp3's. Last time I installed itunes on windows I had to format the pc to get rid of it...
Emasher Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 ok post a link to the file and i'll test it in iTunes. unless its an illegal download then a mod should lock this thread, but hopefully not.
