Koji Igarashi, producer of the Castlevania series, has not been favourable about a version of the franchise appearing on Wii previously. At E3, he told IGN that he didn't feel that the series fitted in on Wii, stating that he felt Wii was meant for shorter games and unsuited to the Castlevania style - and also couldn't envisage people whipping constantly with the motion sensing, and had a lack of ideas otherwise.

However, he seems to have changed his mind in the past few months. Speaking to Nintendo Europe, Igarashi gave an altogether more positive response on the front of Castlevania Wii:

"We still can't think about anything other than this DS version [Castlevania: Portrait Of Ruin] because we are so busy but of course we would like to think of something interesting and pleasant for Wii. I have some ideas for Castlevania for Wii."

Could this mean that the series will make its way over afterall?

No doubt the continued phenomenal success of the DS,

and the constant hype and positive media coverage of the Wii had something to do with the change of opinion!

Would help if Cubed mentioned they're pretty much quoting IGN's piece on it:

Castlevania On Wii?

Iga talks about the Belmont brood and Nintendo's not-next-gen next-gen system.

by IGN Staff

September 6, 2006 - Back at E3 we spoke to Castlevania's main man, Koji Igarashi to talk about Portrait of Ruin, the anticipated sequel to Dawn of Sorrow, on the Nintendo DS.

At that time Iga was understandably skeptical about how comfortable it would be to use a Wii-mote to whip for hours. Specifically, he said "I'm very interested in the Wii hardware, and I'm attending a Nintendo presentation in Japan, as well as a Nintendo press conference this week. I realize that the Wii market is casual gamers, that are looking forward to a short game experience and I hardly doubt that with the Castlevania style, they'll all sit down and want to play for multiple hours or even a day. Also, I just really can't think of any good ideas. My thought is that a Castlevania game doesn't fit very well with it unfortunately. But maybe when I go back to Japan I might come up with some brilliant idea, and I'll try to think of the possibilities."

Recently, Nintendo's European site printed an interview with Iga from the German Games Convention. Now, Iga has some news for those interested in seeing Castlevania come to the Wii. When asked if he'd given further thought to the idea Iga replied, "We still can't think about anything other than this DS version because we are so busy, but of course we would like to think of something interesting and pleasant for Wii. I have some ideas for Castlevania for Wii."

That's a juicy tease for fans of the series.

best news ive heard in months really. I want to be able move my arm and see ____ Belmont's arm doing the same on-screen (and whip skeleton ass accordingly) I wonder if the technology in the Wii is good enough to handle that with any precision ::shrug:

If not ill be happy to play another beautiful 2D Castlevania on my tv, which i havent done since the SNES

Or maybe a nice lazy one-handed Castlevania RPG for something new.

Yeah they could always do a fantastic 2D adventure (as the 3D ones have never been that highly rated) and implement Wii-mote controls (like those in Metal Slug Anthology) and elements from the DS games using the Wii-mote!

Actually they were quoting the interview on Nintendo's site. Ha! :D

I haven't read the NoE interview, but I kind of doubt they would have mentioned IGN's interview from E3, whereas the Cubed interview does. Just compare the two, someone's just re-written the IGN piece slightly.

Dawn of Sorrow made me love 2D Castlevania and I'm going crazy waiting for the new one. Unfortunately, I've only played one of the home console versions (One on the n64, can't remember the name) and it could have been better...but if they use the Wii-mote more then we could have a big hit on out hands!
