FalcoLombardi Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Yesterday I received in the mail my laptop and everything else that I ordered with it. Also included was a wireless router which I tried setting up. I was able to do the first 3 steps but when I got to the fourth it said something like this: "Insert Primary DNS number. (Internet providers usually automatically supply this.)" However, my provider didn't automatically fill in the number. The problem is that I have no clue whatsoever how to find my Primary DNS Number and possibly my Secondary DNS number. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've used Internet Frog but have no clue how to fill that out. Thanks again!
Ollie Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Click 'start' then 'run' type cmd and press enter. Now type: ipconfig /all and press enter. If I do it I get the IP address of my router, why do you need this address?
FalcoLombardi Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 I need it because the Router says I need it. No clue why. I tried going on without filling it out, but whatever... Oh, and thanks!
Ollie Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I think its asking for the DNS of your ISP, but I would have thought this is done using DHCP (basically you automatically get assigned an IP address from your ISP each time you connect). Is there an option to select DHCP assigned DNS anywhere?
FalcoLombardi Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 I have no clue what you just said.
Ollie Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 lol, sorry. I just checked my router and it automatically gets the DNS address. Can you provide a screen shot? EDIT - Just about to have my dinner, but add me to msn and I'll have a go at it with you in about half an hour ([email protected])
FalcoLombardi Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 Yeah, I think I can, but give me a bit... Well that was really odd. I tried setting it up again so I could get a screenshot of what it was saying and then it didn't have me fill in the DNS numbers cause it connected by the DHCP. Thanks though!
Jon Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Always connect by DHCP if you can, maes things a lot easier.
