arab_freak Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 http://www.gwn.com/news/story.php/id/10042/       Although, it's much easier to buy a new graphics card every 5 years or so than buy one that will probably be useless once some new graphics medium/development/technique is made that won't be supported by this "card".
The Peeps Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 I'll buy one... I just need to win the lottery first.
Shorty Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 What's the point in this card? There would never be games that would be able to utilise all of the features it offers, since those games would be far too demanding for the average gamer's high-end video card and would thus never sell.
Guest Jordan Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Its not meant for gamers, its mean for graphics and CG designers.
Shorty Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Its not meant for gamers, its mean for graphics and CG designers. Don't see it as a great investment for them either personally :/ I'm sure it's extremely powerful but it just seems unnecessarily so....
Jon Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Don't see it as a great investment for them either personally :/ I'm sure it's extremely powerful but it just seems unnecessarily so.... Its more aimed at the design studios really, such as pixar etc.
pedrocasilva Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Its more aimed at the design studios really, such as pixar etc.yeah, it's not "that" expensive on that account. the article is stupidly written on the idea it gives off first... everyone knows Nvidia Quadro has 5% performance drop or more when running actual games compared to a geforce with the same "core-basis". -> http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadroplex_comparison_chart.html This is a case with GPU's in SLI inside. Just for the record... a NV43GL card, Quadro 540 the entry base for Nvidia Quadro's... is actually based on a 6600GT but... it gives a 7800GTX a run for it's money in Maya and 3D Studio Max. that's what these cards are all about. Their lifespan is bigger too... a 6800 Ultra is a Quadro 4400 while 7800 GTX equals to a 4500... the diference might be big for games... but it's just not there in rendering, they are pratically the same... High-End Quadro cards are often clocked lower than the entusiast gamers cards based on the same architecture... why? because you don't want the card to go bollocks in the middle of a rendering; and rendering uses far more transistors than a regular game (thus generates more heat on the same card. All in alll using this for games is just stupid, better performance than a quad-sli of 7950 GX2 won't happen (probably even with a dual-SLI).
