DiemetriX Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 A bit like Jordans MP3 player guide. Got a HDtv? Write what you think about it. There are three main things I want to know. How does non HDtv things look on the TV? (Regular Tv, DVD's, cube etc) How does HDtv things look? What difference do you se with Component, Vga, HDMI. Laggy HDTVs: Samsung Samsung LN-S4051D LCD HDTV Severe lag in 480i, 480p. Game Mode doesn't help much. Samsung HLR-5087, 50" widescreen DLP Lags even with DNIe off. Bad with 480i, 480p. Samsung HL-R5064W 50" DLP HDTV Gaming Mode doesn't help, horrible. Samsung HLR5067WX/XAA 50" DLP Serious lag with 480i, 480p no lag. Samsung HL-P5085W DLP Heavy lag on S-Video and Composite. Samsung SP-46L6HX Samsung DLP HDTV, Model #HLR5067WX/XAA Version:PW01 Samsung HL-S4266W Even in 720p Samsung 32" LCD TV LE32T51 Samsung HL-R6168W DLP Very bad lag with component. Reduced with VGA. Samsung DLP 5078 models Samsung HL-S5086W Very minimal lag with Gaming Mode. Sharp 27" Sharp Aquos HDTV/HDMI Lags in: Prey, Oblivion Sanyo Sanyo Vizon 26-inch Westinghouse Westinghouse LTV-27-w2 27'' LCD 16ms response time blurs, lags with standard RCA, no lag with component, even in 480i. Polaroid Polaroid FLM-323B 32" Lags with the Dreamcast via Composite. Sony SONY KD-SR50XBR1 Dell Dell 32 inch LCD (W3201C) JVC JVC AV-48WP74 48'' Rear-projection CRT InFocus InFocus 61'' DLP MY TV: The TV is a backprosjection TV but The colors and Black levels are great. The HDtv quality is really good. I can't say I have seen anything better. I use Component cabels and that's the best way for me. If I use the VGA port I get a bit sharper picture but the respons time is slower so I get scan lines. But I'm using a PC on the VGA port for pictures and movies and the quality is a lot better than my PC monitor. I haven't tryed the HDMI port at home, but when I saw it in the stoe I thought it gave an even sharper picture than the VGA cables. But the respons time is even lower with HDMI. Playing DVDs through the 360 gives a really good picture. It brings out new details and the colors are great. But some movies look grainy. I watched Hostage yesterday and it looked amazing. But some movies like Nurse betty looks pretty grainy. Other SDtv signals looks good. But not as good as they looked at my old TV (mind you my old Tv was amazing IMO). When Playing RE4 I see more yaggies. And when playing xbox some games look a bit clowdy. Anime is an exception. Anime looks perfect on the TV even tough I use my old xbox. Final verdict: I love the TV. I doubt you can get better for the same price. The low respons time on the VGA and HDMI port is the only drawback IMO. I give it 9/10
The3rdChildren Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I'm running on the TV I believe is classified by Samsung as the "LE32R41BD", although I cannot confirm this because model numbers confuse me. Here is a pretty picture of my television, so that if I've gotten the model incorrect you won't be totally confused: This isn't the latest HD-TV out on the market by any means, but,it has most of the inputs you'd like to see. I'm pretty sure this thing will vend a piping hot foam cup of soup if you slot a pound in. It's honestly home to about seven or eight orifices into which you can play all manner of antennas, RGB and regular scart leads and those different coloured leads I like to call the "Power Rangers", but are actually known to those with a maturity level beyond 10 years old as Component cables. These is also a weird little thing I am told is for HDMI connectivity, which is apparently important for the future of high definition or something like that. Adopters can furthermore expect to locate a VGA port on the back and an s-video port to play around with. The colours and other video/audio settings can be tweaked to your desire, with a variety of complex pre-sets and customisation options peeking around every corner of every menu. It can be daunting at first, but play about - we all turned flesh tones bright yellow on our first time too! I've so far watched the built in freeview, which is a pixelated mess some of the time and probably one you'd want to avoid, but it's quite easy to set up and has a decent range of supplementary channels so you can watch Friends any time of you day you want. As with most LCDs, analogue signals fare horribly, and this television is no exception to that rule. GameCube, a console most of you will own having registered for a primarily Nintendo forum, is quite sexy on this television. Connected via RGB scart, you're looking at something a little less satisfactory than a fatty television, but not so much that it will make your eyes die in sorrow. I did however encounter a weird problem with some RGB scart leads and it ended up being the second unofficial Game one I bought that looked the best. The regular Xbox is more of the same, although why anyone would use an Xbox on their super sweet HDTV is beyond me, especially when the spanking gorgeous Xbox 360 has popped in for tea. Plug that sucker in however you desire, but if you desire to live your life smiling I'd recommend the official Component lead from Microsoft. The quality of my Joytech third party cable provided abundant blur and colour bleed. Lag is not an issue o this television set and anyone rig-a-digged up to this model with their Xbox 360 is in for a visual treat (provided they are not blind). DVD playback is one I feel I should touch on, and I since I'm waiting for HD-DVD to pick up a new player, the Xbox 360 is how I view my DVDs. Everything looks about normal, with the usual shortcomings of an LCD television showing through on some of the older stuff. I love this television, but analogue signals and older display formats on an LCD are nothing compared to a CRT. I'd also like to note that on this TV the Xbox 360 is best displayed at 720p, because I die in Halo 2 more often when it's set to 1080i for some reason. Since we're talking native resolutions and such, I don't know what the specs of this TV are aside the fact it has a lot of inputs, it can display high definition signals, and that I can put the porn on my PC onto it for almost cinematic quality wanking. If that's not all the technical specs you need, then you're clearly a mental. Would I recommend this TV? Yes, but they're going down in price all the time, so pick and choose your moment carefully. Samsung have even released a newer model in this size now. We've all seen it on the TV with that silly **** giving up world cup tickets for the "BRAND NEW SAMSUNG TV" right? Yeah. I'm giving my television a 8 out of 10, less a couple points because upon closer inspection of the manual it does not actually dispense soup. Bollocks.
