Okay, so occasionally when I switch my computer on it goes insane, says the CPU is at 99C and then it shuts down from overheating. I then have to leave the computer to literally chill before switching it on.

I thought this was a problem with the heat sync but just now I watched the temperature on all 4 cores drop from 99/98C to 40C, in less than a couple seconds...and their hanging there fine.

What the Hell is going on?

At no point am I running anything close to intense.

I hate computers...

I have no idea. I will google how to check and I shall check. How tricky would that be to fix if that was the problem? I open my computer up when I have to but I'd hardly say I was confident.

Shouldn't be too hard. If it feels loose then it's not on properly. You'll just have to reconnect the pins in the corner.

Although as Mokong said, if it has come off then you should probably get some thermal grease. I recommend Arctic Cooling. Works well and you can usually pick up some MX-3 pretty cheap.

I'll have a look when I have a little more time. Frustrating. This is only an issue for the first 10/15 minutes after start up and then it drops and has no problem maintaining below 40C.

Cheers guys!
