david.dakota Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 My good lady freind has been paid late and as a result ended up with bank cahrges and charges made by a car credit company. I seem to remember that if this happens due to an employer not paying you on time the EMPLOYER is responsible for these charges. This might have been part of my employment contract and not legislation, i can't be sure - can anyone clarify this?
Lammie Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Sounds to me like the employer would be responsible.
Mr_Odwin Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 The member known as Ian had something similar happen to him so you could contact him and ask him what happened. I can't remember. I would've thought that if it's your lady's contract to be paid by a certain date and then she isn't the company is at fault. Take it up with human resources or whoever does the pay thing.
trisha Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 the employer can offer to make things right, but they have no obligation to pay your bills. if you dont have the money that is your problem. you need to check the terms of employment agreed to. while the company may owe you pay, i dont think they can be responsible for your bills or interest if you can not pay them. one of the problems with living hand to mouth. try and save for a problem so you dont have one. also see if you can move the bill due dates to a day further away from when "you" are paid. unions are very useful, even for those not part of one. browse their websites for advice http://www.worksmart.org.uk/rights/viewquestion.php?eny=99 or even student websites http://ussu.info.dnsupdate.net/GetAdvice/OnlineAdvice/EmploymentRights/tabid/113/ctl/Edit/mid/380/GetAdvice/OnlineAdvice/EmploymentRights/DeductionsfromWages/tabid/281/Default.aspx your local library also should have a range of employment rights books good luck. ps, even the biggest financial companies fail to pay their staff sometimes. i know that!
