danny Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 was the funeral today of the 2nd to last vetran of WW1 Henry Allingham, who was in the Royal Naval Air Service in the war and later with the RAF, was the world's oldest man when he died 12 days ago aged 113. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8175751.stm I thaught having 3 RN and 3 RAF personel as bearers being a nice touch and probably what he would have wanted.
blender Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 does this mean we now should highlight different wars on poppy day ? quite a few forgotten wars with no where near as much pen ash as ye old muddy trenches.
danny Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 I think now there all dead that means theres even more reason we shoudnt forget waht they did. I think that most other wars post WW1 are fairley well remembered on the day as well.
Platty Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Radiohead have released a song in memory of Harry Patch. Can listen here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_8184000/8184802.stm Lyrics: I am the only one that got through The others died where ever they fell It was an ambush They came up from all sides Give your leaders each a gun and then let them fight it out themselves I've seen devils coming up from the ground I've seen hell upon this earth The next will be chemical but they will never learn
