i have come in to some extra money. And would like to buy a surround sound system for my new house so far i have seen this

http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0568020403.1239476291@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccefadeglkfhdfgcflgceggdhhmdgmk.0&page=Product&fm=0&sm=4&tm=2&sku=102909&category_oid=

And am really intrested. But before i buy. i was just wondering if anyone had any other set ups to recomend. Would idealy like 2 tall boy speakers and the rears to be the smaller type.

Also on that LG set up it says it had a USB connection do you think that means i can play my ipod through it?

Thanks for any comments in advance.

And just to add. It will only really be used for movies and wii. And a bit of music. Im not a tech pervert either so it dosent need to be the best system money can buy just the best system for about £200. Wont be used that much either as i only live in my house at weekends.

I have a Logitech Z 5500. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Digital-Multimedia-Theatre-Speaker/dp/B0006HBCL8/ref=sr_1_3/277-8337805-6813142?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1239542311&sr=8-3

I use it on my PC though. It's decent for music but great for games. Haven't really tried movies so far. The only real downside is that the subwoofer creates a strong magnetic field so it has to be 60cm away from other electronics.

I have one of these...

It's normally £289.99 for that model atm but there is one on Play Trade for just under £200 which is a very good price for what that unit can do, just bare in mind that you will need to buy some decent speakers to go with it to get the most out of it though.

Yeah that setup seems 'fine' so I'd just go with that if you truly won't be using it a great deal, you'll still get good results from that setup I reckon but it's pretty light on inputs but as you say, if it's just for your Wii and DvD player then it's not an issue.

I wont im never in the house. Its just that ive spent all my money lately on sensable stuff so i want to treat myself.

I presume i can get one of those 3.5mm leads from my ipod. As an input in to my tv. and then if i have an optical lead it will play on the audio system?

Not sure if that will actually make sense to anyone but me.

That looks pretty good, yeah. But still, my advise is - whatever you buy - get a sales advisor to open it and have a look beforehand. Fair enough, if your buying online not so easy, but in the store, you should be able to get someone to open it if they genuinely want the sale. Have a good look at the connections to make sure its going to meet your needs.

I have the older but almost identical z680s, good because they use standard cabling so you can extend them as much as you want (with clips instead of phono style connectors). Either way, these speakers are fucking excellent and have all the inputs you could want and a remote.

my vote is cast for these for sure.

  • 1 month later...

Well now im all settled in to the new house i have the surround sound set up ( http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/461555/LG-HT503TH/tab/specification ) and im impressed. The upscaling is deffiantly noticable and the sound is more than good enough for what i use it for. It is also a good looking system which is a big bonus seen as it just sits there most of the time.

I have recently got an optical cable what shoudl this do? I understand that Wii isnt surround sound and should only play out of the front and sub. But should freeview be surround sound. As far as i can tell it isnt but mayeb i havent watched anything on TV yet that makes it that noticable. The freeview is in the TV and not a stand alone unit if that makes a difference.
