Haden Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Hey guys I dont think anyone is going to be able to solve this for me but Im gonna give it one last shot to try and fix. Basically steam hasnt worked for me for ages. When I click on it a sand timer appears for a second then nothing happens. It doesnt appear in the background in task manager. I have tried reinstalling etc about 10 times and it makes no difference. I have turned off firewalls etc. The only way I can get steam to appear on my computer in some sense. Is when I delete my client registry.blob thing in the steam folder. Then steam will update making a new one and not work again. I think im just going to have to wait till I get a new pc or format this one as im at my wits end but thats the situation if you guys have any advice let me know.
Raining_again Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Do you have full access on windows? (ie you can install stuffs ne?) Did you change anything before it failed to work?
Haden Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 Yep I can install stuff I think im the administrator im on windows xp. Ive really no idea whats changed to be honest. I used to play CS then all of a sudden games stopped being found now steam itself simply refuses to open its really annoying.
Raining_again Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I had a wee look via the wonders of google and saw the thing you said you did, deleting the Clientregistry.blob. Did you also delete... Steam.dll and.. SteamUI.dll? (make sure you haven't tried to open steam when you do it)
Apple_NdiB Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Have you gone over everything mentioned here?
Charlie Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Steam has an automatic "noob detection" thing built into it which bans anyone it deems to be a noob. Unlucky mate, looks like you're out for good.
