PyroFlare Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Hey all, I got me a new laptop recently (cost £800) and I was wondering if you could tell me whether it was worth the dosh... Specs are: ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 1/7/2008, 14:46:08 Machine name: MATT-LAPTOP Operating System: Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_gdr.071009-1548) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard System Model: HP Pavilion dv9500 Notebook PC BIOS: Ver 1.00PARTTBL Processor: Intel® Core2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz Memory: 2046MB RAM Page File: 1049MB used, 3261MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 10 DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 6.00.6000.16386 32bit Unicode --------------- Display Devices --------------- Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce 8600M GS DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0425&SUBSYS_30CC103C&REV_A1 Display Memory: 1008 MB Dedicated Memory: 241 MB Shared Memory: 767 MB Current Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz) Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor Driver Name: nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll Driver Version: 7.15.0011.5665 (English) DDI Version: 9Ex Driver Attributes: Final Retail Driver Date/Size: 9/19/2007 04:05:00, 4943872 bytes Also, I have a problem too... Well, I love FINAL FANTASY XI (don't be mean - Im hardcore FF fan) however the framerate drops masively when it begins to load NPC, Players or Monsters on the field, for example Im in mog house, no lag, Im outside Moghouse Lag like hell! I dont know whats up with that.. My Broadband Connections speed is 8MB Broadband with BT.. So... whats up and also is my laptop good? (Double Barrel in disguise!)
Slaggis Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Not bad at all, but the graphics card might be affected the game...it's far from the best out there. But try and get the latest drivers for it, and make sure you're not using to much ram (i.e sharing the ram with the graphics card) because that might be slowing down the pc when playing games.
PyroFlare Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 Its odd because I can run PSU online in highest graphics resolution and experience 0 lag at all even in heavy built up areas
DCK Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 It's weird really, it should run it fine. The 8600M GS is a decent laptop card which should run a PS2 port more than fine.
Guest Jordan Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Heres your problem: Dedicated Memory: 241 MBShared Memory: 767 MB Your 8600M GS is using up system ram, so you'll only have around 1GB of ram left. With system processes you'll not have much past that. Just go into the BIOS and remove some of the shared memory access. Your graphics card, does not need a gig of ram.
Apple_NdiB Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I get similar pauses during certain games, particularly during Gears of War, and according to the Nvidia control panel my GPU is using the same amount of system memory: You say there's a way to change this Jordan?
Guest Jordan Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Well, the 8600M is a mobile onboard chip, meaning you can change that. As for your 8800GT, its a stand alone card as far as i know impossible.
PyroFlare Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 I don't know what to adjust it to, or even find out where I can change it, if you could help me there it would be much appriciated.
PyroFlare Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 bump - its important... this lag is killing me. Unless someone can provide me with a forceware update for my Graphics Card that will allow FFXI to run smoother that works for 8600M GS. I cant get it direct from Nvidia as HP blocks all updates unless it comes through them.
