The fish Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I've seen enough of these threads to know that laptopsdirect.co.uk is the place to go, and I found a rather attractive one for £399. * Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz Processor * RAM: 1024MB DDR2 RAM * Hard Drive: 80GB Hard Drive * Screen: 15.4" TFT Display * Optical Drive: DVD Re-writer (DVD SuperMulti) * Graphics: Shared Graphics * Wireless LAN: 802.11b/g * Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium * Card Reader: 5 in 1 Memory Card Reader * 3 x USB 2.0 Ports Any thoughts? Good? Bad? Seen a notably better deal elsewhere? I should probably also point out I'm getting a monitor to use my 360 with when I go to Uni, so the lack of a dedicated graphics chip is unimportant. I'm also planning of buying a 320Gb external hard drive for £58. Any comments would be appreciated.

McPhee Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 What manufacturer? For basic internet, email and office stuff build quality is far more important than spec. Post up a link
Slaggis Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 http://www.pcnextday.co.uk/ They do some cheap ones.

McPhee Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 My instant reaction to the word Acer is avoid like the plague. They're reliability rate ain't that great and they're repairs department suck. I've been kept waiting up to 7 weeks to get my laptop back from them. A lot of people have trouble, although looking at that pic you shouldn't have any of the hinge snapping problems that plague the travelmate (different style of hinge)
The fish Posted October 10, 2007 Author Posted October 10, 2007 A lot of people have trouble, although looking at that pic you shouldn't have any of the hinge snapping problems that plague the travelmate (different style of hinge) Thanks for the heads up! Reviews I've read for that design say it's fine, and it comes with a warranty, so I'll go for it anyway. If it's the wrong choice, I won't say you didn't warn me, though...
