God help me before i smash my PC

Recommended Posts

I havent had my new PC for long and everything was running fine... untill i decided to buy a game.. Age Of Empires 3

Im running Vista Home Premium and my graphics card is a ATI Radeon X1650 PRO

So.. the problem... after playing for a little while.. some times minutes, some times longer the screen freezes or goes blank. seconds after it will come back and give me this error "driver atikmdag stopped responding but has recovered" or somthing similar. This will happen every couple of secons after it happens the first time.

Ive looked in the problem reports and it says

uninstall the drivers and reinstall them. If not your graphics card might be bust.

Then google and find it if it's just a vista issue, if not ring the place where you ordered it from and complain.

Well after reading what others have said about this on various sites it seems that its quite a problem for alot of people.. and that is a driver issue not hardware.

i found this on ATI's site....

737-27116: Radeon™ Series - ATIKMDAG has stopped responding error messages

The information in this article applies to the following configuration(s):

Catalyst Display Driver 7.3

Radeon™ X1950 series

Radeon™ X1900 series

Radeon™ X1800 series

Radeon™ X1650 series

Radeon™ X1600 series

Radeon™ X1550 series

Radeon™ X1300 series

Radeon™ X1050 series

Radeon™ X850 series

Radeon™ X800 series

Radeon™ X700 series

Symptoms:

When running games or full screen video, some users may be shown a message stating ATIKMDAG has stopped responding but was successfully recovered. In some cases, the system will continue to work as normal. Alternately, this error message may not result in the system being recovered and the system may need to be reset.

Solution:

Currently there is no solution.

ATI Engineering has been advised of this issue and is investigating. Any updates will be published when they become available.

So they know about it but they have no fix

Oh and some Nvidia's have the same problem but get this error "nvlddmkm stopped responding but has recovered"
