I always found jumping with the analogue stick much easier as you could press the other buttons on the controller at the same time, whereas if you pressed X to jump it was harder to press A or B to attack.

 

Yeah but you can't short hop with up that easily, so it kind of ruined the point of using up to jump as opposed to X and Y.
