Demuwan Posted December 20, 2006 Share Posted December 20, 2006 Has anyone had this problem where there is a blank black screen with a blinking cursor for up to 10mins. Then after that it boots up like normal. I don't know what caused it because it is a quite new PC. Please excuse my igonrance,:p but what exactly is a 'defrag' and how would I go about doing one. Or a virus. I had the same problem once. My PC would take five minutes to start up. To defrag go to start>accesorys>system tools>disk defragment. if your running xp home. basicly it orders all your files and compacts everything, so there is more space and the space is organised.
