Demuwan Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Has anyone had this problem where there is a blank black screen with a blinking cursor for up to 10mins. Then after that it boots up like normal. I don't know what caused it because it is a quite new PC. If anyone has any suggestions on what the problem is and how to rectify it would be much appreciated! Thanx again:bouncy:
Guest Jordan Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Try a defrag first, if this doesn't fix it come back. There could just be a dodgy boot process somewhere.
Konfucius Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Or a virus. I had the same problem once. My PC would take five minutes to start up. And stupid Norton didn't recognize it (of course) so I had to get rid of it with the task manager...

Please excuse my igonrance,:p but what exactly is a 'defrag' and how would I go about doing one. Or a virus. I had the same problem once. My PC would take five minutes to start up. thirtynine. Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 McAfee sucks. To defrag go to start>accesorys>system tools>disk defragment. if your running xp home. basicly it orders all your files and compacts everything, so there is more space and the space is organised.
