Is there an easier way to make a border around text, ala this sites logo.

 

I just Modify > Contract > Fill etc.

 

Is there an easier way?

With photoshop, you want "Stroke", Double click on your text layer in the layers window (or right click > blending options).

 

Check the "stroke" box on the left side then click on "stroke" itself - and change the colour or thickness. Viola.
