Nintendo Ditching This Years E3 Presser
madeinbeats replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
The Wii was a special phenomenon, who here doesn't agree with me on that? It's far too much to ask of the Wii U to match that level. As good as NL is, it's no Wii Sports and online features wouldn't have had much effect at all on sales. I think NL bundled in every SKU may have had some impact on sales; mistake; arrogance; greed; financial necessity; I don't know. But look, Wii U is no Wii - that's a tall order to ask for anyone. No Wii U Sports equivalent exists and may never exist in the way it did on the Wii. Wii U needs to fall on more traditional methods to drive sales like the majority of consoles do. -

Bingo. That's what I'm saying. There's the underlying issue, and then there are various symptoms of that issue. -

All issues stem from key title development delays and no opportunity to build momentum. Advert on TV 'this is the new Wii, Wii U' is that so hard to understand? I don't think it is IF adverts existed. 3DS built momentum and awareness and that's why the name isn't an issue for it now. Sure, maybe things might have played out different if they used a number convention in some way, but how different? They still wouldn't be advertising it right now because of the base momentum building issue. So what if people went into a shop and thought it was an add-on, at least they went to the shop to ask about it. Result lol. Two very large assumptions and no consideration of the economy, Sony's financial affairs or Joe blog consumer. -

Dogs always return to their sick and miserable dog owners love company. It's all compounding and not down to one thing, like the name. -

They admitted to some of these points in their investor meeting. I think it only costs too much for what it is when there aren't the games there people want to play. We'll have to see if it's too much for what it is when the others launch, then it might seem much better value compaired to a potential £400+ PS4, with 'no games', no BC, paywalls, etc. A lot of this is down to them wanting to hide the box from sight and overlay it with images of the gamepad. Maybe an under estimation of how stupid the public are, though Nintendo have to take most of the blame; and maybe Sony are reconsidering their initial announcement with not even a notably different controller to standard barer their new console. Two just so happens to rhyme with U, so that's as good a place to start as any with new ads. -

Like a bull shark down stream from fresh chum. Thanks for providing the super visceral version of this thread, Wii, hopefully it will help snap people out of their melt downs lol. Vintage Wii. Still not casual gamers and still nothing major in number. People who read tech news already know about the U. But there's still nothing preventing BBC or anyone else reporting on the Wii U, because Nintendo will still be there on the floor with new games, playable. When is the last time anyone read a console/game story in a national newspaper, that wasn't sensational bollox and wasn't a couple of pages before the call a busty housewife ads? Exactly. If it was THAT important, they wouldn't be jibbing it. -

Casuals don't watch E3 man ... no way (or read gaming related news on news sites!) Casuals watch adverts and ride the waves of social buzz and Facebook posts. That's where Nintendo needs to drive.. when they have momentum building titles lined up. -
I sort of agree with most of this except the opening line, and the closing one haha. I sort of agree with the theory that a stumble from MS or Sony would always help, but it goes without saying you don't place the dependency of your business plan of such things either. Nintendo must have known fairly early on it was sending the Wii U out on a wing and a prayer where development of key momentum building titles are concerned. I think that's why there's been no marketing. They fumbled the launch, there was little point in a big momentum drive. Relaunch set for July onwards which gives 4 months incentive to build on awareness before othe consoles launch. Writing is far from on the wall... yet!

I wasn't the only person to call this. Gamers need to stop putting expectation pressure on themselves for E3 to be this big Cirque du Soleil event for the benefit of gamers, then get depressed when it doesn't happen. E3 just isn't that show anymore and hasn't been for a few years. Even more so now NDs are here. Yes, that sucks, but that's all there is to it isn't it? -

@Hero\-of\-Time , hang on, I thought it was a no-brainer Nintendo were 'going to bring it' at E3 this year! *crosses out date in diary* Look, only time will tell if this is a good move, or bad.. No? They let any vagabond into E3 with a sweaty backwater website and call themselves 'a journalist'. "Hey, Nintendo, is your console under-powered? Is the CPU crap?". "Hey, Nintendo, you fucked the launch, now what?". "Hey, Nintendo, no UE4 for Wii U?". Great publicity for the Wii U there then! High five. They haven't got enough time to turn Wii U woes around to stand confidently and be counted by the time E3 arrives (weeks) - compounded by the very large slice of the spotlight PS4 and X720 will command. It's not like they haven't booked their presence there, and maybe they will have a good E3 when all is said and done. But remember boys and girls: don't.put.stock.in.to.E3!!! It's for the best. -
That's not true at all, there's no stipulation on donation platform targets. It's one target for all platforms going by their KS page.

I can't edit titles, need me some awesome moderator power for that.

Just read the post again lol, you missed a large part of it. It's not too much to ask if the VC launched later, which is probably the best point to be argued here.
-
Umm, probably best if someone from the mod-nation mafia adds something like ($160,000 goal pending). Looks like the only goal they've set. Pledge $5000 and get a flight to New Orleans to have dinner with the team and 2 nights in a hotel! Slightly odd senario; dinner with a bunch of strangers?
-
Yeah, just too much expectation for day one, although day one NoA can't get much poorer than that. It's hardly the VC launch, more like the launch of a place-holder. People want games flying left right and centre. I hardly think anyone at Nintendo is just sat there playing waste bin basketball. They're finding SD to HD a struggle and everything is streched... that's the reality. If it was as simple to just plop the whole Wii VC onto Wii U (which still wouldn't be satisfactory I'm sensing), they'd do it, but obviously they aren't so logic suggests the EMUs need rewriting for the Wii U on an individual game basis. As reality sets in the VC launch day will be nothing to write home about, the GAF paddy wack ripples through the hive-mind. Wii U should have launched with Wii U Zen: The Art of Patience ... or beer ... beer's always good. )

Edit. Whole project depends on the $160,000 goal pending. http://www.dsogaming.com/news/road-redemption-single-player-campaign-details-coming-also-to-wiiu/

Firsy Wii U trailer: From updated Amazon listing. ★ Splinter Cell Blacklist offers enhanced gameplay options on the Wii U. ★ The Gamepad mimics Sam's OpSat, allowing the player to operate gadgets such as tri-rotor drones, sticky cam and much more through touch and motion based inputs. ★ The Wii U GamePad allows for faster reaction times, letting the player mark and execute enemies, switch weapons and choose gadgets to adapt to any situation. ★ Track your friends' missions and see what Splinter Cell Blacklist players are doing worldwide through the GamePad.

After reading the credits, it seems NOA and NOE localised and tested the game, and Satora Iwata was the Executive Producer! I think that puts multiplat release hopes to bed.

Just a load of down-sampled jizz shots slapped on a GamePad stock image, but hey, don't be so ungrateful.
